It's I Love to Read month and we're kicking it off by celebrating a very generous and meaningful donation! Rana Bokhari has given the Children's Hospital Family... Libraries a collection of 75 Muslim books. Rana made the donation to honour her father, Syed Tahir Imam Bokhari, who passed away in January of 2020. She says part of her culture as a Muslim means finding ways to benefit the community in her father’s name. The large collection means kids at the Children’s Hospital can learn about important events like Ramadan, Muslim culture, and see themselves represented in story. For many families the time they spend in hospital reading together offers a sense of normalcy, comfort and can be a reprieve during a very difficult time. Thank you so much Rana! For career day at school yesterday, six-year-old Pacey insisted on dressing up as a surgeon because he absolutely LOVES his medical team at the HSC Children's Hospital. "I know these times are so difficult. I just wanted to share this to hopefully put a smile on our health-care workers who are working so hard! They have saved our son's life more than once... sharing some love is the very least we can do," said his mom, Kimberly. To acknowledge the effo...rts of Manitobans to stay indoors and to continue keeping each other safe through physical distancing, the Sierra Club Canada - Prairie Chapter created the #PrairieLivingRoom a new outdoor green space at The Forks that will aims to bring some playfulness back into the community, at a safe distance of course. The Manitoba government is investing $1.1-million to expand eating disorder programs at HSC, as well as create a safe nutrition clinic for people living with eating disorders, Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen announced today. This funding will reduce the wait times of inpatient care to one to two weeks (from two to 10 weeks), and outpatient care to two to three weeks (from four to six months). Dr. Louis Ludwig, medical director for the adult eating ...disorders program at HSC, explained treatment of eating disorders requires a dedicated and specialized team that is able to intervene early and effectively. This investment in additional inpatient beds and a new nutrition clinic are expected to shorten wait times for entry into our programs, reduce the length of stay for some inpatients and may eliminate the need for some patients to be admitted with these additional supports available on an outpatient basis, he said. Thank you to Minister Cameron Friesen, Minister Cathy Cox, Dr. Louis Ludwig, Elaine Stevenson and all who attended todays announcement. Learn more at https://news.gov.mb.ca/news/index.html
