Meet Jenna Kean, MSc. C.C.C - Spero Therapy - the newest practitioner joining us at Healthy Balance Holistic Health Group! Jenna is a St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador native with a passion for continued education around mental health and wellness. Her practice aims to create a safe space where individuals can learn how to strengthen coping skills, address daily stressors, and learn how to develop and practice healthy coping patterns. She received her Master’s of Cli...nical Mental Health Counselling from Niagara University in 2015 and is a Canadian Certified Counsellor. Jenna has experience working with individuals in the areas of depression, anxiety, anger, parenting, stress management, trauma, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and self-esteem. Moreover, she has considerable experience working with individuals experiencing suicidal ideations. Jenna generally works from a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy approach, however, she believes it is important to remain client-focused and adapt from other treatment modalities when necessary i.e. Mindfulness, Solution Focused, etc. Jenna is an approved provider for Eastern Health’s EFAP, Arete, and Victim Services. Are you getting a head start on your annual Christmas baking? If you are, then you should definitely give my Molasses Buns a try! It's a family recipe that belonged to my great grandmother from Carmanville, NL! ______________________... Directions: - Add melted butter to molasses and stir until mixed well. Add milk and eggs to mixture stirring well. Mix in remaining ingredients. - Roll into 1 1/2 inch balls and press down with fingers. Bake at 400 for 15 -20 minutes. Just an added tip....you want the dough soft , if you need to add more flour you can. I usually mix it until it don't stick to clean finger when you touch it. - Start with 15 minutes to bake then check with a toothpick. If it comes out clean then they are done. Over-baking them will dry them out. Just scoop it on the pan with a tablespoon. If you have any parchment paper it is the absolute best when it comes to not burning your buns.

If you're looking for a delicious lunch or supper to keep yourself warm and cozy this Fall, you should try out my homemade Creamy Curry Orange Carrot Soup! ______________ *RECIPE* Ingredients: 1 TBSP Olive Oil; 1 chopped onion; 1 large minced clove of fresh garlic; 1 1/2 " - 2" piece of ginger (minced); 4 cups peeled, sliced carrots; 2 cups 25% less sodium chicken stock; 2 cups of water; 1 cup orange juice; 2 tsp curry powder; 1 cup plain yogurt (optional); salt & pepper t...o taste; garnish with chopped fresh parsley or chives or green onions or grated orange grind or fresh cilantro Directions: In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat; saute onion, garlic, and ginger, stirring for about 3 mins or until softened. Add carrots, chicken stock, water, orange juice, and curry powder. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer for 45 - 60 mins, until carrots are tender. Let cool for 10 mins. I used a hand blender and pureed soup right in the pot. You can also use a blender to puree the soup in batches, then return to pot/saucepan. Blend yogurt into puree soup and cook over medium heat, stirring for 5 mins or until heated through. Season with pepper and salt to taste. Ladle into bowls, sprinkle with a garnish of choice! Enjoy!!

Sweet potatoes are a rich source of fibre as well as containing an array of vitamins and minerals including iron, calcium, selenium, and they're a good source of most of our B vitamins and vitamin C!... You NEED to try this recipe! A perfect snack for both adults and kids! "4 Ingredient, No Bake Power Ball"! Note: I used honey in place of maple syrup and used crunchy natural peanut butter. These freeze well and are great for a snack on the run! I also incorporated these power balls into breakfast and created a combo! YUM! You need to give these a try! Recipe below! ... **Ingredients** 1 1/2 cups old fashioned rolled oats 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/3 cup pure maple syrup 1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips **Instructions** Add all of the ingredients to a large bowl. Mix together until well incorporated. Cover and chill in a refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Grab about a heaping tablespoon full of the mixture and press it into a ball with your palms. Repeat with the remaining oat mixture, making about 16 energy bites. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
