If Shelby's mix of tortoiseshell and tabby patterns (known as a torbie) weren't already unique enough, take a close look at her two-tone, black and white whiskers! What a beautiful cat.

Did you know that owning a pet can increase your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing? Or that your dog feels joy when they see, hear, or smell you? Or that your cat’s purr has healing qualities? By taking care of your pet’s health, you are taking care of yours. Studies have shown a reduction in risk for heart attack, feelings of loneliness, and stress in pet owners when compared to non-pet owners. #HumanAnimalRelationshipAwarenessWeek

A wholesome tale about a boy and his pet is just what the vet ordered on this #Caturday afternoon. Nala, the cat, has been diagnosed with stage four kidney disease. Unfortunately, there is no cure, but there are ways to slow the progression through supportive care. Nala's boy has been taking good care of her by helping his mom with Nala's fluids and medication to manage her pain. He wants to be a vet when he is older; to help cultivate his interest in vet medicine, we gave him a personal tour of the hospital. It makes us proud to see young people caring about animal health and wellness! #animalpainawarenessmonth

Lucky Penny's most recent visit was for her vaccines - where she was on high alert for treats! As a young pup, this brindle Cane Corso was a little thin. Once placed on Hill’s Pet Nutrition Healthy Advantage Puppy Large Breed food, she has been filling out nicely. We're very proud of the progress she has made at now 18-weeks-old.

While Ella enjoys her walks in the park, she also enjoys the irresistible "treats" that rabbits leave on the trail. She has a history of eating rabbit poop, so when she began vomiting, her mom brought Ella to us for an examination. Ella was prescribed dewormer to protect her from parasites that may have been ingested via the rabbit droppings. She was feeling well enough to let us capture this adorable photo.

URGENT: Tomorrow is the last day to have your voice heard by answering the Responsible Pet Ownership survey. https://engage.calgary.ca/petbylaw We urge you to also contact your City Councillor directly. https://www.calgary.ca/citycouncil/findyourcouncillor.html The City of Calgary Your Local Government is contemplating breed-specific legislation (BSL) that would severely impact the quality of life of all pit bull-like dogs and their owners. We do not support BSL or the labelling of ANY dog breed as inherently aggressive, vicious, or dangerous. Enjoy these smiles from some of our favorite pit bull patients! #BSLfreeYYC Joe Magliocca

While visiting to have their vaccines updated, Tangyuan and Doubao's astute mom mentioned that Tangyuan had been scratching at his ears. An ear swab confirmed that he had ear mites, which are very contagious to other animals. We cleaned Tangyuan's ears to help with comfort and prescribed a topical medication for both cats to rid the ear mites and protect Doubao from infection. Fun fact, ear mites look like coffee grounds to the naked eye. Watch the video to see what they look like under a microscope! #caturday #dontwatchwhileeating

Pain can present itself in many different ways, one of which is dental pain. We found underlying dental disease in Daisy when she visited for an unrelated matter. We removed decaying teeth, which is a source of pain, and gave the remaining teeth a good cleaning. Just look at the before and afters! It's #Caturday, and today we're featuring this little man who visited for his new kitten exam! He doesn't have a name quite yet, as his mom is waiting to get to know his personality. This breed of cat is called a Scottish Fold, known specifically for their ears and owl-like appearance, which we think adds to the cuteness!
