Reaching out to our HEAL community to give help and offer hope to a family in need. . A friend of ours, has a family member who recently suffered a brain hemorrhage, underwent brain surgery and is now recovering in hospital in New York. Due to the current global situation, much of her family cannot be there to help and support her and they have set up a GoFundMe page to help the family during this difficult time. . Please visit the page (https://gofund.me/8de707a1) and if y...ou have the capacity, please consider donating. They are so close to reaching their goal of $20,00 and we’d love to see our community help them get there! . See more

Hi Healers I hope you are staying healthy and safe out there. . Today we would like to share something very special with you all. A friend of HEALYEG’s who has recently opened up about her mental illness journey has shared a raw and beautiful poem about anxiety and depression. .... Thank you for sharing this with us Shiva and allowing us to share it with our followers . We hope this touches you as it has us. . . My name is Shiva. I am a Iranian immigrant, a singer, an academic and a lecturer at the University of Alberta. My struggle with mental health has been present since as long as I can remember. These past four years in particular have been life changing and have challenged every aspect of me. I wrote this accidental poem recently to express the simplicity and beauty of a new beginning despite the shame and trauma of a painful past. . Skin. Tonight, I had a vision of myself I saw myself shedding an old skin this skin, rough, old, weathered, was peeling off of my body Not in whole pieces, Not all at once, not cleanly falling off of me But I saw it shedding slowly Some pieces were small and some large The skin underneath is not perfect It is not brand new The woman underneath is the same woman she has been before I am proud of her. She is herself. She is the parts that she fears and the parts that she loves The passion of a woman and the wide-eyed fear of a little girl The parts that she was when she was 7, 12, 19, 25 Tonight, she stepped out of a pile of skin that was suffocating, dry, cracked, old. A skin that was no longer protecting her A skin that didn’t let her breathe She is not ashamed of that skin, for it was apart of her It will always be a part of her But tonight, she was ready to meet a new skin A skin that she has been preparing Slowly, painfully, patiently underneath I am ready. I am ready to meet this woman I am ready to let the old skin go Allowing it to blow away gently I am here. I am still here. I made it here. ( continued in comments)

Fellow Healers, With growing global concerns around COVID-19 (coronavirus), I wanted to provide you with an update on our response to date and our commitment to you moving forward. The health, safety and well-being of our team and supporters is HEAL’s top priority and we are following the lead of Canadian public health authorities at this important time. We are committed to providing comfortable and safe experiences at our charity event locations across the city with our l...ocal partners. First and foremost, I want to assure our guests that we are taking all appropriate measures to ensure our venues are safe and that we have existing plans and training protocols in place to ensure they stay that way. The Chief Medical Officer of Alberta has provided an update on the current situation and is moving forward with more aggressive measures to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in Alberta. Please be aware that is an evolving situation and can spread very quickly. The concern is not that any one of us individually will become fatally ill, but that any one of us can carry the virus and spread it unknowingly to others who are susceptible to becoming fatally ill. We ask that we all work together as a community, keeping our elderly and more susceptible peers in mind, while trying to mitigate this pandemic by being proactive with our collective response. Prevention of the spread of the virus is of most importance to us. Please refer to the Government of Alberta’s website for the most up-to-date information: www.alberta.ca/covid19 We want to ensure that our planned upcoming events are a success, so we have decided to postpone WIG OUT in partnership with Chvrch of John from Wednesday March 18th to a potential date of Wednesday April 1st. We will be taking it day-by-day until then and will reassess come the week of the event. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation through this time. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you soon! Sincerely, HEAL Team See more
