She is now 13 months old and keeps us on our toes! We have a Siberian Husky named Mika. My fitness journey stemmed from a desire to become a police officer. I st...arted off training at a CrossFit gym and eventually made my way into running. I discovered how much I enjoyed it and eventually ran a half marathon. My goal is to one day run the Big Sur International Marathon. In my spare time I enjoy reading, baking and travelling. I was born and raised in Brampton and have lived here most of my life. I cleaned house yesterday and took out all the old THINGS sitting around for months or years without being touched. I cannot tell you how amazing it feels to get the clutter out. In the past, I would hold on to these things out of sentiment. Yesterday, however, I let go, and it feels incredible. I have kept a few things that I genuinely love, but the rest are just memories, and I still have them. GETTING RID OF YOUR CLUTTER What holds us back from our ultimate potential?... It’s us; we get in our way too often. I have spent more than the last decade working on myself, focusing on my dreams and becoming the best version of myself every day. As I moved through my house yesterday removing the clutter, I made a connection. I felt stuck for years like I wasn’t getting what I wanted in life; I was cluttered. I couldn’t sleep, I was my harshest critic. I had so much clutter inside of me that needed to be removed. Its taken years, with the most significant shifts happening this year. I turned inward, found practices that worked for me, and got help along the way. I leaned into the hard; it wasn’t easy. A massive weight is has lifted off my shoulders as I let go of the objects in my house yesterday. I finally got rid of some of the things taking up space in my home for the past seven years. I was pushing through belief structures; I was elevating myself into new territory to take on new adventures that I didn’t believe were possible before. The internal work is now showing on the outside. Real change starts inside, change the mind, and the body will follow. As I remove the clutter, it has allowed for new energy to enter, and I can now sit in peace and focus. Our environment shapes who we are. Some small changes in our external environment can have significant results in our internal environments.

What a roller coaster ride this has been this year. We have all been through more than we ever could have imagined, and we all had a million excuses to stop our fitness, eat whatever, stay up late, sleep in, and to give in to COVID. There were some fantastic people, though, who kept us going and continued to light the fire within. Carol has been with us for one year, she had every excuse in the book to stop her fitness, and having established a fitness routine just five mo...nths before the shutdown, she could have very quickly just stopped. But she didn’t. Carol has had one of the best years, yes; you read that correct, BEST YEARS!. She has mastered the art of 1% a day. She works hard every day to improve her life by 1%, that’s it, just 1%. Literally showing up for a workout covers your 1% improvement for the day. And a 1% improvement each day over 365 days is equal to a 33% increase. That’s a massive ROI, and she’s done even better. Since starting with Heart and Hustle just one year ago, Carol has lost 35lbs, and she’s feeling amazing; her energy is through the roof, she consistently hits new personal records and has made life long friends. Looking for a different way to try a veggie meal? How about a cabbage steak! Took me a while to give it a try. But I was not disappointed when I did! Cut the cabbage in 1/2 circles. Rub some oil and salt on top and bake it at 400 degrees for about 20 min. You want some crispy edges and the cabbage to be soft. I flipped mine once. Then top it with your favourite topping. Marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. Pesto and cheese. Sweet chilli Thai sauce....possibilities are endless. I ate half and added quinoa and a salad. The other half I took for lunch. Starting over again can bring up feelings of fear, disappointment, and nervousness. One can start to feel like a failure because they got off track. I'm here to tell you that you are still on the path. Starting over .. I like to say that I'm picking back up where I left off, or that we're going to get back to doing what I love. I have spent many hours over the last 6 months on the phone chatting with members and friends. Some kept up with their fitness, some let it go a...nd others ramped it up. Now a few months later Im hearing a lot of the same conversation, I just dont want to start all over again. Its not easy to get back on track, but if you're someone who was taking control of their fitness and health and let it slide when the pandemic hit, theres a few things you should know. 1. You are not alone, stress affects us all in ways we usually cant control 2. You ARENT starting over you are continuing your journey Good stress is called eustress, is what we feel when we get excited, it is without fear or threat. Bad stress is called distress, this is what most have been feeling over the last few months, its associated with fear and negative stimulation STARTING OVER? Definition of start: the point in time or space at which something has its origin; the beginning If you have ever exercised, played a sport, eaten a healthy meal, or even gone on a long walk, you have already STARTED. And if you have already started then you cannot start again, you can only stop completely or continue. If you need some help continuing we can help, we are coaches, not fitness instructors. Have you heard this one yet? If you work in an office or work from home, then there is a good chance that you sit for most of your day. In the last four months, I have sat more than I have in the previous four years, and Im starting to feel it. Here is what a typical day might look like: Sleep for 8 hours... Work for 8 hours Watch TV for 3 hours Eat meals 2 hours Ask yourself, how do you feel? . .. how does your body feel? Your mind? Your emotions? The way we think is directly related to what we do. If you are in pain, it could be because you arent moving enough? Same thing with a lack of energy. More movement will give you more energy; it will help to clear your mind so you can focus, and it helps to deal with the emotional stresses in life. We are a species designed to move our bodies, and our capabilities are incredible. Humans are continually pushing the limits of what OUR bodies can do. When you strip away everything, your culture, mind, spirit, your left with a pile of muscles and bones, that pile is the same; it possesses the same capabilities, there are very few exceptions. We all make choices in life and moving your body should be one of them. If you work from home or at a desk all day, there are a few simple things you can do to keep your body moving. Every 30 min, get up and walk around Every other hour, stand at your desk instead of sit Schedule a walk, even 5 min on your lunch break These are all simple tasks you can do that will help to relieve pain and enforce good habits. We all know that parent or grandparent who is stuck in a chair and has a hard time just getting around the house. Cooking with Coach KD Not going to lie!! Cooking is becoming a bit of a chore! However, I do like to bake and one thing I do weekly is make muffins for my husband to take in his lunch. YES! I do pack his breakfast and lunch daily So muffins are a staple in my house! These small batch Chocolate Chip muffins are always a hit! @bakingmischief The secret ingredient is espresso powder or even instant coffee! Adds so much to these muffins. I also double the recipe and use... a full egg if I do. I make bigger muffins and presto BIG, Bakery style muffins!!
