My first memory of an encounter with a plant is at age 5. I was playing with my rabbit in our backyard. I got on my hands & knees making my body small and mimicking his movements. He ate some Red Clover. I hesitated for a moment not sure if I should do the same. I picked it up to take a closer look. Noticing all it's small petals and their colors. Can I eat this to? I took a nibble. Curious, I layed my head on the ground to see what else he was eating. I remember picking it ...for my rabbit and bringing it to his cage on a raining day. I saved one for myself to eat with him. He loved it and it made me happy to share a snack with him. There was something about the moment with clover that stuck with me. I've heard similar stories from people's first memory of working with herbs. They were moved somehow and it kept them curious. This collective curiousity has built thousands of years of knowledge & experiences which we wrap up with a single word (in English) Herbalism. Recently someone asked me "what is Herbalism?" It was a truely inspiring moment because it reminded me that everyone has the potential for a new beginning towards the path of plant medicine. No matter how far people have gotten away from in the last 100+ years, curiousity will always bring people back to plants! Behind the scenes of 2020 & gratitude! As a single parent this year came with extra hurdles in relaunching this project 3 years post car accident. I had been preparing for a year & yet, I was nervous. Mostly about my own stamina & the potential mishaps that could come with running a business & caring for my family with a head injury.... Then the date I choose to relaunch was the same week the lockdown hit BC. I had the kiddo all sign up from camps because after 5 years of homeschooling I had learned to pre book time apart & bonus points I could focus on the launch. BOOM everything was cancelled. This fed the self doubt that was already lingering. The biggest thought was how can I ask people for $$ right now? I also had an extrovert home 24/7 being like wtf is going on? Every 5 mintutes, my introverted self couldn't think straight. There I was, confused & sitting on whole bunch a remedies I had spent the past year growing & making. I felt paralyzed not sure what to do. Something shifted for me when my mentor asked me a simple question. "Does what you offer bring value & how so?" Well of course..insert the benefits of plants/art rant. "Well then your community should get to decide if they want to align with what you have made. Why would you make something for them & then not let them know. What you offer is valuable." I had never thought about it like that. I went to the garden & reflected on past 12 years of me growing plants & developing my art skills. My goal with all my endeavor was to be able to grow lots of plants for ppl. Why would I stop now just cause the world got a little crazier? I ate some Red dock. "Trust the version of yourself that felt inspired to cultivate plants who's medicine would be ready for this time" whispered something The seasons flowed. People supported! My 1 year plan become a 3 year plan. My family made adjustments for the better & I am getting more time. As this year comes to an end I am grateful that I kept moving forward even when things were hard because hearing stories of ppl's lives improving brings so much joy to my I am grateful for those who have trusted me & welcomed nourishment into their homes thank you!

Seaweed & rose. One could say it is a coincidence that the Nootka Rose blooms as the Bullkelp is in it's prime. Or that when the rose begins to transform from flowers to hips the Nori makes its self available. These opposites not only attract but just so happen bring the best out of anyone who is present in their alignment.... Their meeting points are often the result of wind carried petals landing on jagged shorelines. When the tide is high you might find kelp mulch nourished rose bushes. These meeting points are temporary. If the tide gets too high it will erode the foundation which holds rose in place. If it's petals reach the seaweed beds it only a matter of time until the decay. This rhythmic relationship has blessed our coasts for longer than any human can comprehend or even notice. Yet some of us live to capture the essence of these star-crossed lovers. Navigating thorns, swimming out to sea and quickly making it home to process these delicate beings. As a practice of nourishment & remembering. So it is coincidence or a forgotten way of being?
