Posted yesterday in Parry Sound Pregnancy + Parenting Solidarity. Posting here today, so others can share Growing up I LOVED Canada Day, I mean, what kid doesn't love parades, pools, bbqing with friends, markets, food trucks, boating and fireworks (my experience anyways). In highschool I took a lot of history and world issues classes and always left class thinking 'heck ya, Canada is amazing! We are such great people, unlike the rest of the world'. Little did I know, I wa...s only being taught the 'sexy history'. As I got older I learned the real history and present issues of Canada. The fact that I'm living on stolen land, and my everyday privileges are on the backs of the original lovers + dwellers of this land. That women my age are going missing and simply nothing is being done about it. That families like mine, living on reservations don't even have clean drinking water. Starlight tours (Google it). What the heck, Canada?! Here in Muskoka- Parry Sound, we are on aboriginal land + homeland of Anishibaabek (Ojibewe, Pottowattami + Odawa peoples) as well as the Haudenosaunee + Metis nations. According to the town website, I could, and probably am missing others. So yes, 'heck ya' Canada is pretty great. We may be pretty progressive but we have a heck of a lot more work to do and educating to happen. Enjoy all of the amazing festivities today has to offer- eat the red cupcake, do the craft, wear the fun party decorations, but find a way to do more. Respect the land we are living on Mama Nature / Turtle Island is hurting. Support an indigenous owned business (couldn't be easier right now - Ogiimaa Cafe is a great place to start) or artisan. Donate to a charity supporting communities. Teach your kids. Ways to contribute to reconciliation: https://reconciliationcanada.ca/get-in/how-to-get-involved/ Ways to teach kids about reconciliation: https://fncaringsociety.com/shannens-dream-school-resources Know better. Do better. Because that's what I truly believe Canada + Canada Day should be about. xoxo

I receive a lot, A lot of emails, messages and texts with questions from parents. SO I have decided to make it a 'thing'. Ask a completely anonymous question, and I may answer it in the form of a blog post, video or live stream. Give it a try! https://www.hearttoearthdoula.com/dear-mary-poppins

As a doula + pregnancy/parenting support person I run into many individuals in all seasons of their lives. Sometimes they are already past the season of life where they would benefit from doula support, or aren't interested in complete doula support but would benefit from access to accurate, up to date education in pregnancy and parenting. After many years of knowing I had to find a creative way to support these families, I came up with Parry Sound Pregnancy + Parenting Soli...darity. This group has been active for just under a year and has almost 200 local members. It is a really supportive and welcoming environment and I am proud to know of every single one of our members. <3 If you are interested in more information or would like to join, check it out! There is a community agreement and a little bit of eligibility involved, but we would love to have you! https://www.hearttoearthdoula.com/parry-sound-parenting-pre

Look at me GROW! It's no secret that I have been in the process of re-branding for well... what feels like forever. If you have ever been around me during a big decision, big... or super small- send your praise and apologies to Hanna at Cabin. It was pretty obvious that I was struggling with finding what felt absolutely perfect for my very own baby (of over 5 years now). Hanna passed on a quick pep talk to just go with my gut. I can't thank you enough Hanna. I literally want... my logo tattooed onto my body now. My favourite part is there are a number of variations of the logo now, which is SO.ME and solves the whole 'decision' problem. I've been sitting on these for a while now. I guess they are ready to hatch, or better yet come earthside. With sharing my logo, I am also giving myself the push to start making products again. The product line is expanding, but doula services remain a solid, soulful part of me and H2E. What product do you miss the most? Anything new you are hoping to see? Most recipes are formulated and ready to go, but I'm always up for more. www.hearttoearthdoula.com
