HEARTWOOD PLACE 11.10.2020

We are sending Best Wishes for 2018, along with Sincere Thanks for another year of outstanding support. The appreciation & gratefulness comes from everyone at Heartwood Place -- but especially from the tenants who benefit from living in our apartments. 2017 was another year of hard work and planning for Heartwood Place. Building more affordable housing has always been the goal of Heartwood Place. With two completed buildings and 99 units the Organization committed themselv...es to expanding with a third project. This past January a third location was purchased (with an additional 21 units and lots of potential) in the heart of Cambridge. This building is located in the heart of Preston and will be a great fit for the organization. Due to the age of the building we have spent 2017 hard at work repairing and renovating existing units to bring them up to Heartwood Place standards. We’ve also been planning for construction of additional units on the large lot behind the building. Our end goal for this property is 30-50 units of affordable housing while maintaining some of the amazing historic character of the building as well as the current tenants which some have called home for many years. Our plans for 2018 will include a Capital Funding Drive to make the additional 20-30 units in Project 3 a reality. In the spring Heartwood Place was awarded a donation of over $14,000 from 100 Men Who Give A Damn Waterloo Region towards a full renovation of one of our suites in the Project 3. This renovation will include a much needed complete Kitchen & Bathroom renovation. We are very grateful to this local organization who were able to impact the lives of our future tenants in such a positive and direct way. The Homes, Gardens & All That Jazz fundraiser was held in November and was another great success. It was a beautiful evening at Deer Ridge Golf Club of jazz, fine food and exciting auction items all to raise funds and awareness to the need for more affordable housing in the Waterloo Region. Over $17,700 was raised and we look forward to holding this event again in the future! Upon reflection of the past year, taking ownership of an older building in need of quite a bit of tender loving care as well as taking on additional 21 new tenants to manage has been a challenge; however with the excitement of finally taking ownership of the property for Project 3, the addition of some new part time staff & volunteers and a successful fundraiser under our belt the Board of Directors is looking forward to 2018. We look forward to continued support and a new project this year. Your support moving forward is needed now more than ever. We could not have made this great step forward without you. Happy Holidays from Heartwood Place Susan Raymond, Chair of the Board
