Today was Amanda, Yoomi’s and my last day working together until lockdown is lifted. The studio is such a happy environment but when I’m hear by myself it’s just not nearly as fun! We put together a few art kits this afternoon which will all be added to the website tonight. I’ve also put together some art supply kits for anyone who would like to stock up on supplies. With the stay at home order that is effective as of 12:01 am tomorrow access to supplies for art kits will b...e limited but we will continue to offer what we can. The good news first. Today we had beautiful, curious, and happy children in our space. New marks added to our walls, hands and feet covered in blue paint, rice tossed like confetti, and new friendships formed. The Readers Choice 2021 winners were announced and we won in the Best Childrens Entertainment category. It was an honour to be nominated and we are over the moon to be chosen! From the bottom of our hearts we thank you!... And now the bad news. Lockdown. This is getting repetitive but I will say it again. COVID is real. The risks are there. I believe we are doing right by wearing masks, sanitizing our spaces frequently, reducing numbers and completing a daily COVID checklists with every person that comes through our door. I am also pro lockdown. Like a real one. One that should have happened from the beginning. One that if they announced today I would be on board with. But once again this lockdown is unfairly affecting small businesses. I am so tired of pivoting. I was up all night. My brain spinning with ideas on how to continue to offer artful experiences to families in a safe and unique way. I was hoping to work hard all weekend on our outdoor space to get it ready but under these new lockdown measures I can’t have more than five people outside. I have received many messages in support of me staying open and I am so pleased that you feel so safe bringing your children to our space. We work really hard to provide a safe and fun experience for your children. Breaking the rules feels uncomfortable for me. I worry that I’ll be judged and considered reckless. I am concerned about dealing with bylaw officers and getting fined. I have messaged everyone signed up for Saturday drop-in as we are closing for programs. I am taking the weekend to breathe and think and consider all my options. I will message everyone Sunday who is signed up for a program for next week as well as post here on social media. I love early art experiences! I know it doesn’t always look like much (usually it just looks like a colourful mess) but the skills children are building through exploring paint, pouring glue, sprinkling glitter, and making their own choices are building a foundation for strong artistic confidence, solving problems, decision making, fine motor skills and so much more! So please never apologize for the mess they make during your visit! You’re children are hard at work making m...emories and learning new things. It is 100% my jam for them to make a big, colourful and creative mess at the studio! While we couldn’t finish this session of Artful Play we will re-open as soon as we can and welcome you back for more fun and creativity at the studio! The studio will remain open for curbside pick up with new limited hours during the new year. We get the cutest babies in our baby sensory play programs! Today we immersed ourselves in a foam sensory bin and made adorable little baby footprint ornaments. We have space for the next two weeks in our Friday Baby and Me Sensory Play class. This class is for babies 3 months to crawling and is fully social distanced. Little Artists started back today with a few new faces! Our tinker table got a lot of attention thanks to the cute little reindeer cutouts and all the art supplies available at the table to decorate their creations! We’re back at it again with a new session of Artful Play! All week we’ve been hauling in snow and ice from our side yard and experimenting with painting and dripping liquid watercolours onto the snow and experimenting with how to get the snow down the sensory tub tubes! We painted colourful self portraits in our Little Artist class today! Together we chose which colours best matched each artists eyes, hair, skin colour and clothing. My favourite brand of Tempera paints is by Prang which can be found locally at the Dollar Tree in medium sized easy to squeeze bottles. It’s non-toxic, water based and super smooth.
