SPLASH PARK Our community needs and deserves a splash park. Splash parks bring a new way to play to a community, creates a sensory tool for a child's learning and development and provides a gathering place for family and friends. The Splash Park Comittee has already completed the ground work for this project. It's ready to go! All that is needed is funding approval from our municipal partners. I fully support this initiative and hope that Oct 17 brings a new direction to our community so that we have a splash park to enjoy next summer.

I support the expansion of the Mariners Centre to include a pool that meets the needs of the people. We have been without an up to date aquatic facility for far to long. The recent closure of the "Y" pool has highlighted the importance of acting on this issue now. In the mean time we still need a community pool. Keeping the present pool open until a facility can be built is crucial for the continuing health and skill development of our citizens. The Mariners Centre expansion should be a priority for all 3 newly elected councils in our area. Together we can can make this happen!

Early this year Yarmouth Town Council voted in favor of exploring the idea of consolidation with our neighbouring municipalities. The objective was to look at the pros and cons of consolidation, and to explore models that might work for our unique region. I was in favour of that decision, which I see as a step in moving our region forward. Progress doesn’t happen in an environment of, well, we’ve always done it this way. Times change, communities change, needs change. We ne...ed to have the courage to confront, and adapt, to change. That is progress, a word that was written by our ancestors into the Town of Yarmouth’s motto. As well the Municipality of District of Yarmouth have considered investigating the pros and cons of consolidation, but in the end decided the time was not right for them. Meanwhile, the municipalities increasingly share many services (Mariners Centre, airport, solid waste disposal, etc) and each of these shared service areas require service agreements that cost time and money. As well there are duplications of services and infrastructure in all municipalities. I believe, if streamlined under consolidation, money could be saved. Will Consolidation Work For Us? We won’t know until we explore the options. My hope is that after Oct. 17, our new councils will explore all aspects of consolidation with the best interest of our citizens in mind. Discussion does not make it so, it is just a starting point. But we owe it to our residents to seriously consider the possibilities. Discussion opens the door to negotiation, and from negotiation can come cooperation. Discussion can open minds to new ways of doing things. I’m in this to help us build our tomorrow from where we are today. I see many opportunities yet to be realized and, with your support, I am eager to get started.
