Heather Bain BTA Services 07.05.2021

Micheal Macintyre is a British comedian who has a very funny way of explaining his parenting dilemmas. I laughed out loud because it was oh so true!!! My 3 children were picky eaters (unless it was junk food). We had a rule that if there was something new on your plate, you had to eat a little of it at 3 meals so you could get used to it. Later you could decide if you did or didn't like it. This reduced the food battles at meal times because my children knew that it would be okay to try something new and not eat all of it. Sometimes they learned to enjoy it, other times they didn't. It was a strategy that came about because I remembered missing out on dessert lots of times because I wouldn't eat peas. I still don't!

Heather Bain BTA Services 21.04.2021

Welcome! Let me introduce myself Hi! My name is Heather! You may have not heard the acronym BTA so I’ll explain what a Behavioural Teaching Assistant does. I‘ve worked with children from Kindergarten to Grade Eight, in a school setting. My educational background includes an Algonquin College Social Services Worker Diploma, ongoing professional development in combination with 24 years of experience working with a wide range of children. Together we work on social skills, ...problem solving, emotional self regulation, anger management, anti bullying skills and staying on task. Lessons are delivered on a whole class basis or through more targeted, individual support depending on the student’s skill level, strengths and challenges. My Reflection Room Program has a wide range of programs, resources and strategies to address students needs and enhance and foster social and emotional growth. Then Covid-19 hit the world and schools were shut down from March to June. One of my major realizations through this, was how much I loved my role at school because of the students and staff I worked with, the intellectual stimulation and the satisfaction from watching my students learn and master skills! The other was wondering how I could offer my services to support parents online, on a private basis, who have children struggling with the issues that I deal with at school regularly. In addition, I began writing a family column for a brand new, free, quarterly digital magazine. It takes a village to raise a child and parenting can be tough, especially in today’s world. Feel free to email me at [email protected] to book a complimentary 15 minute consultation call to ask questions and tap into my expertise as a Mom of 3, Nana to 4 and an educator. I can tailor a program to help you and your children.
