Hiking season is coming! Trails will really start opening up in June and July. Come visit us www.heathermountainlodge.com
Great article about adventurous women. Glacier National Park has its own inspiring women, including Mary Vaux, a guest of the bygone Glacier House at Rogers Pass. She not only hiked and climbed the surrounding mountains but also came back each summer to measure the glaciers, creating one of the earliest collections of glacial studies in North America. Ok, let's get out and explore this summer.
A little bit of fun pondering to do while we wait for the snow to melt on our local trails in Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks. What kind of hiker are you?
Don't forget that reservations open tomorrow morning at 8am Pacific Time for campsites at Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks.
So pleased to be featured in this great list of British Columbia's top mountain lodges!
We take good care of every member of the family here at Heather Mountain Lodge!
What a beautiful timber bridge! Although this bridge has been rebuilt, there are many historical sights to see just up the road in Rogers Pass from the early Canadian Pacific Railway days.
Cozy, wintery cabin views
The Beaver River flows just below the lodge. Didn't know about the Beavermouth Train station, but Kinbasket lake is just down the road and a great place to explore on hot sunny days.
Thank you to Parks Canada for looking after these special places so that everyone can enjoy them!
There are 131 glaciers in Glacier National Park, and one of the most easily-accessible is Illecillewaet Glacier. "Illecillewaet" is an Okanagen First Nations word for "big water". This is our former lodge staff member, Laura, hiking up to the glacier a couple of summers ago.
Lots of great history about the surveyor Wheeler, including his work in Rogers Pass. Such a wild place, lots of adventures with the swiss guides, and yet a refuge existed in the Glacier House (see 4:40), a CP hotel complete with a bowling alley. We always like to think of Heather Mountain Lodge as the modern version of this iconic hotel of the past (1885 to 1925). You can still see the ruins at Illecillewaet by day while enjoying the comfort and exceptional food at our lodge by night.
Our local ski resort Kicking Horse Mountain Resort opened last week, and what a snowy week it's been! We can't wait until we are able to open for our winter heli-skiing guests.
Smoked bison boneless short rib with toasted farro, herb roasted carrots, parsnip purée, parsnip bark and braising jus... Incredible! Thanks Chef Stephan!
Just down the road from us is Lake Kinbasket - a beautiful spot in the summertime for swimming, paddling, or just relaxing and enjoying the views.
We are lucky to have some pretty talented staff! This is Dave (our Facilities Manager) and his partner Krysia (our Lodging Manager). Dave's a qualified carpenter, and he likes to take on some pretty cool creative projects in his spare time. Together, Dave and Krysia converted a bus into this beautiful home on wheels, and spent their summer vacation exploring BC!
Good morning from Heather Mountain Lodge! Our leadership team is currently staying out at the lodge for their annual retreat. It’s wonderful to get our lodge an...d office staff together in this beautiful setting, enjoying incredible food made by our new Chef, Stephan, to plan for and celebrate an exciting future! These photos were taken by Sue Gould and Greg Porter.
Our lodge was built with heli-skiing in mind, but it just so happens that it's an incredible place to be every day of the year.
The other Glacier National Park, shouting out to another Thanksgiving for our good neighbours down south!
We get to see a lot of wildlife here at Heather Mountain Lodge. Here is one of our more common visitors - a Steller's Jay.
Just up the tracks from Heather Mountain Lodge. What wild country to build a railway through.
First snow! Thanks for the photo Dave :)
Here’s a last look at our bare mountains before next week’s forecasted snowfall! Photos taken by lodge staff Jessie and Dave.
12 kilometers up the road from Heather Mountain Lodge, halfway to Rogers Pass, you can see the stoney creek bridge on the west side of the trans-Canada. It was once the worlds tallest.
An extended look at the Roger`s Pass area from when the Canadian Pacific Railway first arrived in the 1880`s, to Connaught Tunnel in 1916, to the arrival of the... Trans-Canada Hwy in the 1960`s. Also covered is Summit City, the Glacier House and the amazing Loops. BC and Vancouver Archives and the Ministry of Transportation.
Love seeing historical Golden.
So blessed to be placed where we are! Glacier National Park

Before Heather Mountain Lodge there was Heather Lodge...the location is different the legacy of adventures in the mountains continues.
March 8th seems like a long time ago now. We had an incredible International Women’s Day celebration on that day and have been holding on to the results since. Stay tuned for the full story! Thanks Lindsay Donovan Photography for capturing these photos.
Save an outdoor space you love in your mind, and go there when the world feels crowded
Booking 2021 and 2022 Weddings! Inquire today.
Heather Mountain Lodge has taken a proactive approach to manage the impact of the uncertainty that has been created by COVID 19, by making the decision to suspend operations for this summer (2020). With no known specific date of when the risk of the virus spreading will end and when travel and gathering restrictions will be lifted, our operations team and our wedding guests were left in a difficult position of taking on the significant job of planning for their events without... even knowing if we would be able to gather for these events. Approximately half of our wedding parties are deferring to 2021, all others have been fully refunded. Now that we have turned our focus to the future, we are planning for a strong 2021. Our 2021 winter heli-skiing season is already booked over 50% with returning guests. The 2021 summer is also booking fast due to the deferral of 2020 weddings and new bookings. We are excited about promoting our newly renovated guest rooms and the future launch of our guided hiking programs in Glacier National Park. We hope you will be able to join us in 2021 to celebrate life in the wide-open spaces of the mountains in small intimate groups of people who share a passion for the wilderness. Until then stay healthy and know that there is a future worth celebrating! See more
