In today’s, #TrashTalkThursday, we help business owners understand service charges and ways we can customize your waste management to what works best for your schedule and budget UNDERSTANDING INVOICE CHARGE TYPES AND HOW TO AVOID THEM... Most business owners and managers would agree that understanding your waste invoice can be difficult. It can be unclear as to why your business is being charged extra for something, or if you are being charged fairly. With the help of our friends at #RoadRunner, we’ve listed out the most common charge types that can appear on your invoice, along with tIps for identifying and avoiding erroneous charges and service fees. EXTRA YARDAGE: These occur when the container is filled over capacity. Haulers cannot legally transport a load weighing more than 10 tons. A good rule of thumb is if the lids can’t close, then extra yardage charges will be added. HOW TO AVOID IT : Breakdown all cardboard boxes - when broken down, the less room they take up. One of the main reasons for extra yardage is due to cardboard boxes not being broken down. CONTAINER SWAP: Also known as an ‘exchange’, this charge occurs when your business needs to swap out an existing container for a new one. HOW TO AVOID IT : Upon implementation of new waste services, ensure you have the proper container sizes to accommodate your waste generation and eliminate the need for a container swap down the road. CONTAINER DELIVERY: This is a one-time charge that is applied for the delivery of new containers on a per container basis. HOW TO AVOID IT : Scheduling more frequent pick-ups or switching to an on-demand pickup schedule may eliminate the need for additional containers. EXTRA PICKUP: This charge type is applied when you require service on top of what is already in space. HOW TO AVOID IT : Choosing the right container will go a long way in helping you get the job done, and mitigate the need for extra pickups. You’ve heard of #MeatlessMonday and #ThrowbackThursday, but there’s a new day in town - #WasteLessWednesday We encourage consumers and businesses to take this one day per week to reduce the amount of waste you produce and challenge you by posting a pic of how you do #WasteLessWednesday! Here are some tips on how you can create a more sustainable environment (and maybe save a little dough too!) ... Prepare get your reusables ready the day before so that they are all ready to grab in the morning. Containers for your lunch, travel mug, water bottle, straw, napkin, cutlery, etc. Pack Your Own If you take your own lunch/food to work with you have control over the amount of waste associated with it. The same is true about taking your own coffee at home. You will also save money. Try supporting local independent coffee shops and other businesses Take a reusable shopping bag with you just in case you stop off to do some shopping. Take all your compostables home to compost. Pick up some litter and put it into an appropriate bin (recycle or waste) Compliment someone who is reusing something (someone in the coffee line that has their own mug refilled), picking up some litter, etc. Happy #WasteLessWednesday!
