RIP ROSIE: HC RESCUE DOG CROSSES THE RAINBOW BRIDGE Heavenly Creatures has rescued thousands of animals in the last 20 years and despite the volume of animals we’ve met in that time, Rosie is one dog who we will never forget - she is among the top ten rescues that will always stand out to us. ...Continue reading

SWEET SISTERS SEEK ADOPTIVE HOME Here’s another purrfect pair who came into our care recently. These sweet sisters were spayed today and will be available for adoption to a home TOGETHER within the next couple of weeks once they’ve recuperated from their spays. ... Bear and Cuddles are five years old (they will be six years on September 15th), have tested negative for FIV and FELV and need a quiet home - no hyper dogs or small children - because they are sensitive girls, as calicos and forties often are. Bear (on the left) has been enjoying all the affection she can get from her foster parents, but Cuddles (on the right) is still quite scared and so their new home will have to be willing to give her time and work work her. We know she will blossom once she has had time to settle in more and that these two precious girls are going to be the light of their family’s lives. INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? If you are interested in Bear and Cuddles once they are ready soon, please leave us a message at 739-0077 or e-mail us: [email protected] (please don’t forget to include your phone number). Bear has been enjoying lots of affection from their foster mom

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY: OTTO WENT FROM DUMP CAT TO CHERISHED PET Just a short time ago, Otto (the sweet tabby on the left) was living at the Bay Bulls Dump. He came into our care shortly before Christmas of 2020, unneutered and wild-eyed with fear.... He chronically huddled at the back of his cage and his eyes were as big as saucers, so we thought he was feral, but about two weeks into having him, he started talking to us and we realized that he certainly wasn’t, and had never been, a wild cat. We were wrong and happy to be so. Once he came out of his shell, he REALLY came out of his shell and showed all the HC office volunteers that he is the epitome of affection. As far as we know, poor Otto spent all last winter outside; he and the other cats there only survived because of a kind man who fed him and the others daily. The four cats have all since been trapped and, as you can see, Otto has found a home Otto now has a wonderful home with someone we know well, who already has two HC-adopted kitties, including Miss Ava Bluebelle on the right; she is now Otto’s little sister :) The other cats in the home just love him and the feeling is mutual :) From being a dump cat to an invaluable member of a family - how wonderful is that?!

A HAPPY ENDING - HOBBES IS GOING HOME! In light of all this Covid craziness, who needs some good news right now? We have some to share: We love happy reunions and we are thrilled to report that this handsome orange boy is going home tomorrow! His family has been found ... Hobbes, who we knew as Wilf aka Wilson, is a recent arrival to HC from the streets of downtown. It turns out that he’s eight years old, already neutered and been missing for SIX MONTHS after he pushed out a screen last summer and wandered off. His mom is over the moon to be getting him back and to know that he is still okay after being on the streets all this time. She will pick him up tomorrow once the weather is better and they will no doubt have a very happy reunion. Hurrah for happy endings!

RIP COCO (2006 or 2027 to Jan. 23rd, 2021) Another of our HC alumni has crossed The Rainbow Bridge Coco was a sweet little Terrier who came into our care when he was eight years of his age. His adoptive Mom wrote to us a few days ago to inform us that he passed on Jan. 23rd. ... Dear Heavenly Creatures: 71/2 years ago I fostered one of your animals Coco, a terrier mix. He was just turning 8 at the time. Just being with me for over a month, I knew Coco had indeed found his furever home - he found me and I had found him. I completed the adoption papers just a short while later. Well here it is now Jan 23, 2021. I have some news to share. My beloved Coco has passed over to the rainbow bridge. Totally devastated. . He’ll always be my Dickie Bird. Our bond will always be so tight. Coco, mom loves you so. We all do. Go and be free. There is no more pain. Love you buddy. Till we meet again. I’ll always be your person and you mine. I sincerely thank you for uniting us so many years ago. He was such a sweet, loving boy who loved mealtimes. Lol. He completed our family. He’s finally at peace. No more pain or struggle. Although my heart is broken right now, I know we will get to meet again some day where he will be waiting for me, his mom. He’s back to his good self with his ears flapping in the wind.

THANKS FOR THE KITTY CLIMBERS! Someone (we don’t know who it was) donated a couple of cat climbers yesterday We found one of our HC office cats, Mama, curled up like this yesterday - she could not be more delighted! ... The other office kitties will no doubt be using them, too, so a big thank you from Mama and her friends to whoever left them for us.

Hey Everyone, *Pictured here is HC foster dog Sidney (formerly Seven) who just went to a trial adoptive home I wanted to make a post to say that I’m sorry HC’s FB page has been so quiet this first month of the year. ... There’s LOTS of things happening/animals being helped behind the scenes, I just haven’t been posting much because I’ve been extra busy with HC’s year end/writing tax receipts (it’s that time of year!). Also, while we have many furry orphans in our car, there’s almost no one ready to post for adoption; we only have a couple of dogs in our care and most of the many cats we are sheltering at the moment happen to have health issues, or aren’t socialized enough yet to post, so there’s very few available who can be advertised. To give you and idea of a few of our cats and why they aren’t ready: - Posie and Callie (a pair who arrived in our care this week, aren’t yet spayed - waiting for their appointment - and are extremely skittish at present), Wilf (same reason - just arrived, is scared and is waiting for his neuter) - Otis (A sweet male who is dealing with a digestive issue; he has blood in his stool) - Smokey (dealing with a lung issue - he is now on his third round of antibiotics) - Luna (same reason - is on antibiotics because she has a wheeze and a couple of other things going on) - Angel (arrived from a dump before Christmas and has made strides, but is too skittish to post for adoption yet) - Bonnie and Gypsy (same dump, same reason) - Benny (needs an eye removed) - Prince (came to us earlier this month from a bad situation and recently started limping - he was diagnosed this week with Pillow Foot) - Casper (a beautiful white cat who newly appears to have a food allergy) And on and on and on . . . We just took in six new cats, but we have so many in foster care at the moment who have health issues - and thus are eating up a lot of funds - we can’t take on many more until some of the current ones are straightened out and adopted. So there are lots animals being sheltered/helped, I just need to get back to posting some pictures of them :) Lastly, HC will be 20 years old in June and we’re working on a couple of POSSIBLE major announcements that will just happen to coincide with our anniversary. Stay tuned to see if they pan out. - Jessica Rendell President, HC

THANK YOU We have to say thank you to Daschunds of Newfoundland and Labrador Group for being so kind to Heavenly Creatures once again. For years now, this group has been helping out various local animal-rescue charities every Christmas by either purchasing and delivering supplies or by mailing us gift cards for pet stores, so that we can pick up the supplies ourselves. ... This Christmas, they mailed HC a $200 gift card for Wags and Whiskers, which finally arrived in the mail today. How lovely is that?! Huge thanks to the group and all its wonderful members for their unwavering kindness. You can check out their FB group here: https://m.facebook.com/groups/2376189981?group_view_referrer=search

URGENT: PLEASE SHARE! Mother and daughter duo need SPECIAL FOSTER HOME! Meet Gypsy (in front) her daughter Bonnie, a mother and daughter pair who have had HARD LIVESbuntil recently and are looking for a SECOND CHANCE. ... They came into our care shortly before Christmas from the Bay Bulls Dump - they had been living there for ages, in fact, it was the only home that Bonnie (the daughter) had ever known as she was born outside They were out all last winter and only survived because a kind individual was feeding them. Since coming into our care they have been spayed, tested for FIV and FELV - they tested negative - examined and given worm and flea medicine. They’ve been in a temporary foster home, but they need a longer foster home while their socialization is worked on. We don’t believe Gypsy to be feral; we think she was an indoor kitty before winding up at the dump. She will meow at you - something ferals don’t do - but we haven’t been able to touch her yet. However, she used to rub up against the legs of the person who was feeding her, so we have hope. She was outside for a long time and she is a calico (they are known for being on the shy, sensitive side), so it’s likely just going to take her some time to be truly comfortable. Bonnie was born outside, but we have also heard her meow and she also used to rub up against the legs of the person who was feeding them. However, these girls are VERY SHY and it’s going to be a long process getting them to the point where they are ready to be adopted. They may never even reach that point - we may have to find them a barn home instead - but we want to try for an indoor home first. There must be somebody reading this who has a quiet environment - no small children or hyper dogs who can give these girls some space and time for a few months to see if they can be brought around. They were living with two other cats at the dump and should be fine in a foster home with other kitties. THEY DESERVE A CHANCE. If you think you can foster these girls and give them the chance they so richly deserve, please leave us a message at 739-0077, or e-mail [email protected]

VERY URGENT: PLEASE SHARE! SEVEN IS A SICK BOY - DONATIONS NEEDED! As I type this, one of HC’s foster dogs, a Corgi cross named Seven, is being driven to Avalon Animal Hospital because he isn’t well ... He has been vomiting, having diarrhea and just had an elastic come out of his bum - the concern is that he could have more in him. He is about to be x-rayed and may have to have emergency surgery depending on the results. We are already drowning in vet bills and weren’t expecting an ultrasound we had to do on one of our cats yesterday or Seven to be sick today, so we need support more than we can say. HOW TO HELP US HELP SEVEN If you can spare a few dollars toward Seven’s emergency medical care, you can donate using the link below and a tax receipt will be automatically e-mailed to you. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/35354 E-TRANSFERS: We’d prefer that everyone use the link above to donate, as the tax receipts are taken care of for us that way, which is a HUGE time saver (it frees up time we can use to save more animals). However, if you can’t get the link to work, or don’t have credit card or PayPal, you can send a transfer to [email protected] (The password to use is donation. If you need a receipt, please include your full legal name - middle initial, too - and your mailing address).

BUDDY UPDATE: GOOD NEWS Huge thanks to all the kind people who made it possible for Buddy to have leg amputation surgery and be neutered today. Given that he had major surgery today, he is no doubt in some discomfort now despite everyone’s best efforts, but he is at a great vet clinic and they are doing all they can for him. ... He is no doubt also confused, but he will be on the mend soon and then he will be headed for a foster home in which he will be doted on while he recuperates. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts for helping make it possible for Buddy and others like him to get the second chances they so richly deserve.

URGENT: PLEASE SHARE! DROWNING IN VET DEBT - DONATIONS NEEDED FOR WOLFIE! Can you help Heavenly Creatures pay for some medical care for Wolfie and others? We are particularly in need of help at the moment. ... Wolfie, a seven year old male kitty who was returned to us recently after being adopted as a kitten, needs DENTAL WORK. Poor Wolfie has a number of loose teeth which the vet says are likely bothering him, so he is scheduled to have them out at St. John’s Vet tomorrow and the rest of his teeth cleaned. Wolfie is one of five foster cats who has either just had or still needs costly dental procedures which HC has had to pay for. We have over eighty cats in our care, quite a number of whom have health issues, and we are OVERWHELMED with veterinary debt at the moment. We owe almost $20, 000 in vet bills, the majority of which has been racked up in the last five weeks (we paid off all of our vet debt for September in early October). HOW TO HELP US HELP WOLFIE If you can spare a few dollars toward Wolfie’s dental surgery, you can donate using the link below and a tax receipt will be automatically e-mailed to you. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/35354 E-TRANSFERS: We’d prefer that everyone use the link above to donate, as the tax receipts are taken care of for us that way, which is a HUGE time saver (it frees up time we can use to save more animals). A BIG THANK YOU TO TWO CHRISTMAS ANGELS! We have to thank these two angels, Evan and Peyton, for the very lovely gesture they made to Heavenly Creatures last week. Evan and Peyton have done something extremely compassionate, which is to give up their Christmas present money so that animals could be looked after.... How selfless and wonderful is that? All the animals and volunteers of HC are terribly grateful for their kindness and generosity. Their donation will help us provide medical care and shelter for some four-legged community members who are in need. Please leave a comment below to tell these two rockstars what a great thing they’ve done - their kindness deserves encouragement and we hope it will inspire others to a good deed in

PLEASE SHARE: Terrific Tortoishelle is AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Sally’s Profile: ... - Spayed female - Approx. 2 years or less - Has tested negative for FIV and FELV - Very affectionate, but doesn’t like to be picked up. - Playful About Sally This terrific tortoiseshell, who is as pretty as a picture, came to us as a stray from outside of town with her litter of kittens this summer. Her kittens have since been weaned and found homes and now this momma deserves a good home of her own! She has been spayed and is all ready to go, she just needs a loving home that is willing to treasure her until the end of her days. We don’t know how she is with other animals - she is the only animal in her foster home - but she could be okay if given a proper introduction and enough time to acclimatize. Sally’s Foster Mom Says: Sally is super sweet and low maintenance, but is still a young cat who is playful! She prefers elastics and the laser to the other toys unless the are dipped in catnip. She purrs very easily and only meows when she wants food (She can be a picky eater, she prefers the Fancy Feast collection in gravy or grilled). She loves human company; she is usually in the same room as me except in the aftwernoon where she sleeps in her hiding spot (under the couch). She is not one to be picked up, it’s just not her. However, you can pet her everywhere, even her legs, which is rare! She likes looking outside the window, and she leaves the plants alone (her only bad habit is that she has a tendency to chew on plastic bags, so I had to hide all my trash bins). Interested In Adopting Sally? If you are interested in adopting Sally, please leave us a message at 739-0077, or e-mail [email protected] or fill out an adoption application. VERY URGENT: PLEASE SHARE! DONATIONS NEEDED FOR LEG AMPUTATION! As I type this, our scared little black cat, Buddy, has just arrived Baccalieu Trail Animal Hospital (thank you very much to the kind person who braved this weather to get him there). ... Earlier this afternoon, we posted about Buddy, a homeless, unneutered, shy black cat who was brought to HC because he has an INJURED LEG and needed a ride to the clinic. Buddy needs a LEG AMPUTATION and the vet clinic JUST called this afternoon to say they couid do it tomorrow (it was either tomorrow or to wait until Dec. 14th and we can’t have him wait that long), so we had to get him to the clinic and raise the funds in a hurry. We already owe thousands and thousands in vet debt and can’t handle anymore; it’s the end of the year and we are low on funds Buddy’s leg surgery and neuter is going to cost roughly $1500-$2000 and we still owe several hundred dollars from his first visit for x-rays, bloodwork and so on, so we need to raise more like $2000-$2500. PLEASE, if you can spare a few dollars so that this poor street can get better and then know a home once again, we would appreciate it more than we can say.
