Ever notice the private Mausoleum for S. FRASER in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Amherstburg? Simon Fraser was born January 22, 1834 in Scotland and died February 25, 1905. He and his wife Isabella (1833-1903) and young son John (1857-1928) immigrated to Canada and settled in Chatham, ON. He helped construct the Great Western Railway and when the family (including two daughters) moved to Amherstburg, he worked in lumber, grain and coal businesses, becoming one of the wealthiest citizens of Essex County. In 1880 he was elected mayor of Amherstburg and was appointed Justice of the Peaceas well. He later turned his attention to farming as he was a large property owner and cultivated farms of grapes, peaches, sugar beets and tobacco.
Lest We Forget... On the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour... We Will Remember Them
Please remember, that as of November 1 families are permitted to memorialize their loved ones with Christmas wreaths on stands and to lay Christmas blankets etc on the graves of their loved ones at each of our eight cemeteries. All small momentoes, trinkets, glass, solar lights, autumnal decorations etc will be removed to prepare for winter weather. Flower vases should be turned down to protect them from ice and frost damage. We thank you for your understanding

St William’s Cemetery in Emeryville (Lakeshore) on a beautiful October 31 morning. When the sun shines bright like this, I believe and pray that the grieving family will feel that God is welcoming their loved one...
Special prayer for the beautiful new mural
Thank you Fr Matt for the blessing and dedication of the new Rose Hill and St John the Baptist Cemeteries mosaic/mural on the Amherstburg Mausoleum
Volunteer opportunity to support our Veterans this Saturday...
A Guardian Angel has found her way to Assumption Cemetery; to prayerfully stand watch over the graves of the deceased Basilian Priests who rest in perpetuity. It just feels like she belongs here!
The Cemetery Walk We all have our reasons to visit loved ones resting at a cemetery. Some of us bring flowers at Mothers Day or Fathers Day. Others visit on a...nniversaries and birthdays. Some visit hoping to gain insights about family histories and genealogy. There are many reasons to visit. The cemetery walk includes the feeling we get when we drive in past the cemetery gates and approach the grave site of our beloved. Though they are gone, for some reason we find solace in moments such as these. There is a clarity, a simpleness that speaks to us from beyond. As we walk to where they rest, our emotions sometimes rise to the surface. When was the last time we visited? We continue to miss them and just being at the cemetery is a source of comfort. Were sure they would appreciate that weve taken the time. The cemetery walk is about our feelings for someone we loved dearly and about death and dying. Some of us find elation and love while others find sadness and regret. Everyone feels different emotions. Though they are laid to rest here and we know they are no longer with us at one level, there is an attachment which we will always have to them. Walking to their grave, standing over it, having a heart to heart and paying respects are all simple gestures which make us feel better about who we are, deep down inside. Rose Hill and St John the Baptist Cemeteries in Amherstburg. This is the new mosaic on the mausoleum
We have a wonderful statue and tribute to St. Charbel at our cemetery...have you seen it yet?
Isnt she beautiful? When we found her in our backyard, she was severely damaged: face, hands, cherubs, gown etc. Last year we sent this 100 year old limestone beauty out for restoration and then to be bronzed. Now she stands guard in perpetuity over the Holy Angels, the babies who died going back as early as our opening year of 1929!
Before and After photos of cemetery restoration. Feels like reuniting families again...
Preserving a 100 year old limestone statue on the main drive of our cemetery. Now The Calvary has been bronzed! Good for perpetuity!
Look what we did today! Installed the refurbished old historic arch back into its rightful place at St John the Baptist Cemetery in Amherstburg! Next week it gets a paint job too. Then we await the new matching arch for the adjoining Rose Hill Cemetery!

From Sea to shining Sea Today we hosted the 9th annual memorial service for Rear Admiral Walter Hose. Colour Guard, Veterans, National Anthem, Taps... A final salute for the 2nd Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy. Served from 1980-1934. We Remember...
One of the oldest trees at Heavenly Rest; a red oak estimated to be over 100 years old, was hit by lightening a few years ago and although good and solid, it had died. But with Rusty Barton of Chainsawed Expressions, it has been resurrected into a Pascal Candle. A fitting addition to our cemetery and the peaceful respite that we provide to the families who visit their loved ones here!
Today we remember all of the Fathers who passed through the gates of our cemeteries and now Rest In Peace with us. We send our prayers to the families who miss their love and support especially on this Fathers Day.
Happy 70th Birthday to Fr Gary Goyeau From your neighbours: the staff at Heavenly Rest Cemetery! Have a great day!
Practiced (new found) Veterinarian skills tonight! I single handedly caught a Canada Goose with my winter fleece and then cut the tightly wound fishing line off of his legs and feet! Awesome experience! No one around to take photos of my surgical skills though. Must be a success, he is standing now. Time to go home and wash my fleece sweater now!!!
June 13 is the Feast of St Anthony; and to commemorate, we unveil the monument to the former St Anthony of Padua Church. This church was decommissioned about 10 years ago but we kept the church bell, refurbished the corner stone, coat of arms and bricks from the original church to create this monument which is in the St Anthony section of our cemetery. Come visit this weekend!
Final Call for Firefighter Parent. Thank You to Windsor Fire, LaSalle Police, OPP, EMS and all who came to show their support as honour guards. May he Rest in Peace

May 1 at 12 noon, Bishop Fabbro and Bishop Dabrowski join in the Consecration of Canada and the US to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, in time of ...pandemic. Watch and pray along with us here: https://youtube.com/user/wwwdolca. The Ritual and Prayer from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has been added to our website https://dol.ca//consecration-to-the-blessed-virgin-mary-ma. Our bishops will be joining bishops from across the United States and Canada in the Consecration to entrust us to the care and protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that we may benefit from her powerful intercession.
In an update posted today, Bishop Fabbro has announced that churches in the Diocese will remain closed until the end of May, unless we're advised by the provinc...e or local health authourities that a limited resumption of activity would be safe before that time. https://dol.ca/news/covid-19-coronavirus-update-7. Our communities remain strong. Parishes are working hard to stay in touch with parishioners. We've added resources for the faithful to https://dol.ca/outreach including online Masses, publications, activities, prayers and readings. If you know someone who doesn't have internet, let their local parish know so they can reach out. You can find our parishes at https://dol.ca/parishfinder. Or, send a note to [email protected]. Parishes can still use your support, if you're able to help. Use the Diocese's donation page and you can direct it to any parish https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/diocese-of-london/. Join us in our "We are a house of prayer and service" campaign. Details at https://dol.ca/outreach#prayer. Your local Society of Saint Vincent de Paul might need help. You can find your local Particular Council at this link http://ssvp.on.ca/en/particularcouncil.php.
The May monthly mass (May5) and the Mothers Day Prayer Service (May 9) are both cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
