We're growing happiness! Gardening has been shown to increase self-esteem and mood, reduce anger and improve general psychological well-being. Children who garden learn responsibility, patience, perseverance, collaboration and even how to deal with disappointment. Our Social Development Coordinator, Mr. Lavery, has undertaken a school garden project with some of our classes from K-6 - planting flowers, veggies and house plants to add to the ambiance of the classroom, teach the students where their food comes from and even to help build relationships between the kids. Stay tuned for their progress! #myhfs
We're kvelling! Our teachers and students worked so hard preparing for their in-class Seder. Enjoy some highlights from the week. Chag Kasher v'Sameach from #myhfs
What's different this Passover from all other Passovers? Our Gr. 4 & 5 students can recite the Ma Nishtanah in multiple languages! #myhfs
Our families define themselves in different ways and HFS provides an inclusive and welcoming environment for all by blending traditions and customs from various cultural backgrounds. The Gr. 1-2 split class took part in a special Sephardic tradition at their Seder - Madame Rebecca took the Seder plate and passed it over everyone’s head with a special pasuk (verse) which talks about how we left Mitzrayim in a hurry. #myhfs

School assemblies 2020 style! It may not be business as usual these days but that's not stopping us! #myhfs
At HFS we help our students' true colours shine through! #myhfs
At HFS, our vigorous advanced curriculum is enriched and brought to life with hands-on, multi-disciplinary experiences such as field trips, special guests and seminars. We’re being creative this year and bringing some of our 37 field trips to the school instead! Our students explored the nomadic and sedentary lifestyles of the First Nations, they got to know Montréal founders Jeanne-Mance and De Maisonneuve while visiting the remains of Fort Ville-Marie, and understood bartering and the fur trade between the First Nations and the French. Stay tuned for our next trip. #myhfs See more

"Anything is possible if you try" Thank you Terry Fox for your inspiring message of perseverance and hope. And thank you to our HFS community for your fundraising efforts in support of the The Terry Fox Foundation. #myhfs
Our students were very excited to hit the road today in support of the Terry Fox Foundation and we're so proud of their enthusiasm. By teaching our students the value of giving tzedakah and helping those in need, they benefit from giving as much or more than the recipients of their efforts. #myhfs
The High Holidays offer such an incredible opportunity for learning at HFS. Les étudiants ont eu quelques semaines très chargées, culminant en Hakafot de Simchat Torah à l'extérieur ce beau matin. Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach from #myhfs
Une belle journée pour en savoir plus sur Simchat Torah! #myhfs
I will never forget re-entering HFS for the first time after many years, when we came for an open house. I walked the corridors in the kindergarten area, and all the sights and smells brought back a flood of wonderful childhood memories. I was fortunate to attend HFS as a child. I grew up among these walls and learned the importance of our religion, traditions and customs in these classrooms and in the synagogue. With every occasion that I enter the shul, I am brought back to... those childhood days with Rabbis Newmark and Zeitz, and recall the lessons we learned. With every Shabbat meal, holiday, custom, etc., I recite prayers by heart and practice the traditions that I learned while at HFS. When it was time for us to choose an elementary school for our daughter, there was no question. We both strongly believed in her receiving a Jewish education, and to reinforce why we see our family for Shabbat dinners, say prayers, and practice all of the wonderful traditions and customs. With every chagigah, kabbalat Shabbat ceremony, or event that her grade performs, we always say to ourselves how happy we are that we made that decision. We know that HFS will help shape her future as a strong Jewish woman and will provide her with an outstanding education. Karen Goldberg (HFS class of '89) #myhfs See more
