Happy nutrition month from your Tri-cities, Cambridge, Guelph and Fergus Zehrs dietitian team! To celebrate this nutrition month I thought I would share 3 things I love about my job as a retail dietitian: 1 Working 1-1 with amazing clients to support them on their health journeys. A myth about dietitians is that we are food police and when in fact we are food lovers! In working with clients I provide personalized practical and realistic advice around food choices and meal ...planning with an all foods fit approach 2 Having a pulse on all the new products in the store! Speaking of which, have you tried the new PC sparkling water that has pop flavours?! 3 Working with a collaborative team of dietitians who inspire me everyday and bring great areas of expertise to the table!
Refresh your fridge and pantry with some heart healthy additions
Oatmeal is a staple in our household. It’s nutritious, inexpensive and so comforting during our cold Canadian winters Oatmeal makes a great base for a balanced breakfast and with a little creativity, the flavour combinations are endless! To power up your oatmeal consider a few of these easy additions: 1. Swap soy or cow’s milk for water for a creamier base plus added calcium and protein! 2. Add a scoop of almond or peanut butter great flavour, and a protein boost. 3. Top w...ith berries or sliced apples for extra fibre and antioxidants. 4. Add walnuts or sliced almonds for some crunch along with healthy fats, vitamin E and protein. 5. Add veggies like grated carrot (plus some cinnamon and walnuts- hello carrot cake oatmeal!) or canned pumpkin to get those veggies in early! What’s your favourite oatmeal topping? #oatmeal #healthybreakfast #instoredietitian

Reducing food waste tip of the day How to use up those bread bums! I don't know about you but at any given time I've got multiple half loaves of bread on the go and drying out!... Save your bread from the green bin and give it new life by making homemade croutons for salads and soup! Or make your own breadcrumbs to use as a crispy topping or binder for meatballs and burgers. For a sweet option, try using stale bread for bread puddings and French toasts it will soak up all the flavour without turning to mush. #employee #zehrs #yourinstoredietitian #reducefoodwaste
