How can you tell if someone's had lip fillers? A study asked 98 volunteers (76 women and 22 men) to view digitally-morphed photos of a woman's lips in which the upper lip, lower lip, both lips, and the cupid's bow were manipulated at increments between 1 mm and 5 mm. Here's what they found: 1. The ratio between the upper and lower lip is important. Lips that were believed to be enhanced had a larger upper lip in relation to the lower lip. Generally speaking, participants thou...ght that the lower lip should be larger (about 1.6 times) the height of the upper lip. 2. Alteration of the Cupid's bow (the two peaks in the middle of the upper lip). The study found that participants thought that alteration to the Cupid's bow looked enhanced. Even minor adjustments could contribute to an artificial appearance. The human eye is incredibly attuned to what looks natural and what looks a little "off".
