Our friends at Bicicletta, asked for our legal advice to write a 10-Step guide to insurance claims with ICBC, and we were happy to oblige. The Helpforme Cycling team is stoked for the 12th Annual Glotman Simpson Cypress Challenge tomorrow. This annual fundraising ride generates charitable donations for BC Cancer to help change pancreatic cancer outcomes, and we are proud to support the cause. We will be there tomorrow with coffee and donuts at the base of Cypress to fuel you up, and our firm’s Managing Partner, lawyer and avid cyclist, Joel Zanatta, will be delivering a pep talk to Fondo Clinic riders to inspire you and keep you motivated for the climb! Donate and/or find out more about this worthy fundraiser at http://www.cypresschallenge.com. We hope to see you there!

Craving an espresso to refuel? Here are a couple of our favourite bike-friendly cafés: Musette Caffe Bar, located at 1325 Burrard Street, is fully licensed and offers sandwiches, fresh specialty menu items and coffee drinks, along with cycling races on TV. The café is spacious with lots of seats and a large patio. You can lock up your bike outside and they provide complimentary bike locks and tools if you need to perform a quick fix or bike maintenance. They also sell some co...ol cycling clothing and swag, and offer bike rentals and cycling tours. Sanctuary Cafe a bike-friendly, community coffee shop featuring coffee roasters and artisan baked goods from BC producers. Located at 160-13020 No. 2 Road on the eastern edge of Steveston Village in Richmond, Sanctuary’s logo tagline Coffee - Cycle - Culture says it all. The café welcomes you to bring your bike inside, even when it’s wet, and also provides tools to help you fix your bike if needed. The café owner, Steveston resident Tim Lee, is an avid cyclist who understands the important balance between exercise and good coffee! Both of these cafés are situated right beside bike lanes, or among bike friendly streets, for easy access. #cycling #civilcycling #cyclinglife #thecyclinglawyer #helpforme #vancouverlawyer

The 5 Essentials for your cycling saddlebag tool kit. Not sure what to pack? Here are some must-haves: 1. Tire levers some tires, particularly those with thick sidewalls or wired bead can be difficult to remove, even when using tire levers. You might find it nearly impossible without them. They typically come in steel or plastic. If you use steel for durability, the downside is that they can potentially damage your rims, so use them with care. 2. CO2 tire inflator and CO2 c...artridges we’re calling this ‘one item’ because there’s no point carrying one without the other. Practice using them together so you’re ready in case of a flat. Know how to tighten the cartridge into the inflator and gently release the air into the inner tubes. 3. Spare inner tube make sure that your spare is the right type of tube and the correct valve length. If you have more than one bike, remember to swap your spare inner tubes, or better still, have a tool kit for each bike. 4. Bike multi-tool while multi-tools come in many sizes with varying numbers of tools, the bare minimum your multi-tool should contain includes: Allen keys of up to 6mm, a Phillips-head (cross pattern) screwdriver, a flat-head screwdriver, and a T-25 screwdriver (6-point star-shaped pattern) if any of your bike parts require T-25 screws. Make sure your multi-tool also covers all the different bolts on your bike. 5. Inner tube repair patches a patch kit is an essential back up for your spare inner tube. There are typically two types of patch kits: vulcanizing (which means you’ll have to apply glue) and pre-glued (self-adhesive). It can be a messy job, so follow the instructions carefully. Practice patching an old punctured tube and check the next day to see if it’s still inflated and holding air. In addition to your tool-kit, we always recommend carrying ID, cash, a protein bar and mobile phone for emergencies. Stay hydrated, pack wisely and ride safely.
