We are so grateful to the Audain Foundation for donating $4 million to the new St. Paul’s Hospital at the Jim Pattison Medical Centre. This leadership gift will establish the Audain Public Art Program at St. Paul’s Hospital to ensure the new hospital will have meaningful public art as a part of its environment, adding to the healing experience and overall well-being of patients, staff, and visitors https://bit.ly/3cTKsKW

"Today, after a year of living through a global pandemic, one of the things I can share with you is how important connection has been in my life as a health care worker. Being on the frontline of a COVID test centre while also starting out as a new nurse practitioner was both humbling and rewarding. People were scared, and unsure, and feeling stressed, and most still are today. I have been witness to the need for deep connection and therapeutic relationships within our societ...y as a whole, especially now. The idea of us 'all being in this together' is the truth - we really are all in this together. Everyone's situation is unique but at the end of the day, we have to be kind and compassionate to each other." - Kara, Nurse Practitioner -- When you give, your donation will have a tremendous impact. You will help fund some of our greatest needs, which continue to evolve, now and into the future. https://helpstpauls.com/covid-19/caregivers ( Jonathan Hayward/The Canadian Press)

We're delighted to welcome Dr. Zachary Laksman to the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation (HLI), who was recruited last fall with support from the De Lazzari Family Chair in Heart Lung Innovation. A cardiac electrophysiologist and an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, Dr. Laksman has been a regular collaborator with the HLI, and we're excited to continue supporting his research!

Yesterday was World Health Day. Throughout the past year, we have experienced a greater need for health care than ever before. That is why we couldn't be more excited about the new St. Paul's Hospital. Research and innovation will be a driving force at the new hospital, much like it has been throughout our 126-year history. That driving force has led to some of the world's most remarkable, life-changing innovations - including TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation), a procedure that has become the gold standard in more than 40 countries. Even Mick Jagger had the operation in 2019! The new St. Paul's Hospital will usher in a new era in health care in BC, with the tools, resources, and technology to care for patients, teach the next generation, drive innovation, and transform lives across all of British Columbia. Please join us.

Some good news that came out of 2020: BC had a record year for heart and lung transplants! That included 33 heart transplants, the majority of which were performed at St. Paul's Hospital - the provincial centre for adult heart transplants in BC. Vancouver-based actor Jason Gray-Stanford was one of those heart transplant recipients. He's thankful to his entire health care team at St. Paul's for the professional care he received. According to Jason, if it weren’t for them, I would not be back to my own self, out here now. Learn how you can become an organ donor this Green Shirt Day https://bit.ly/39cqFUL

Now more than ever, getting a flu shot is an important step to protect yourself and those around you. A flu shot can reduce your chance of developing symptoms that resemble COVID-19 which would require you to get tested and self-isolate. You can get a flu shot from your family doctor, walk-in clinics, pharmacies, and more. Find your nearest location in BC here: https://bit.ly/3kXKRNW

I certainly was one of those that thought that perhaps it didn’t even exist. Jason Allard hadn’t known anyone who got sick from COVID-19 until his mother did. Powerful video here from Providence Health Care about the importance of continuing to take measures to prevent #COVID19

If we’ve learned one thing over the past few months, it’s that COVID-19 is a long game. In May, we launched our post-COVID respiratory clinic and research program. It was a great start, but we were already learning that COVID doesn’t just affect the lungs. It can have severe and lasting consequences for a patient’s heart, kidneys, brain, nervous system, and psychiatric health. Today, our Post-COVID-19 Recovery Clinic encompasses a team of specialists working together to address the full scope of post-COVID illness https://bit.ly/38eUrbI
