The preliminary results of the plebiscite held for Hemford Forest land use planning by-laws are: Yes - 23 67.6% No - 11 32.4%... Total votes = 34 The threshold for passing the plebiscite was 66.7%. This means that the land use planning passed by one vote. Doug Reid, MoDL Planner, is preparing a report of the process and the core result that will be presented to the Municipal Council on October 9 at 7pm. They will hold a vote on a motion to accept the results. Assuming the Council votes to accept the results, Doug Reid will communicate the process to form a volunteer committee of no more than seven eligible voters. This committee will conduct several meetings which may be attended by any members of the public who may speak to any issues that concern them. It is possible that the final version of the land use by-laws for Hemford Forest may not be sent to the Municipal Council for a ratifying vote until this time next year. FYI - There were at least two cars broken into on Thursday evening, Sept 20 in Hemford Forest. As well, there were some people heard and seen in Hirtle Park (tennis court) around 11:30 pm that may or may not be related. Some advice to consider: - Keep vehicles locked and with no valuables inside. - Keep motion detector lights on.... - Report any future break-ins to the RCMP even if nothing is taken. The RCMP may be able to piece together different reports and events. - Keep a watch for unfamiliar vehicles and record license numbers. - Keep an eye on your neighbours property when they are away. Hello everyone, News from our Director: Members of the Hemford Forest Property Owners Association,... With the welcome signs of spring comes the returning concern with black bears. We had several homes visited by a bear last spring and the risk is ongoing. Please take care with your green bins to keep them in a shed if possible and cleaned with bleach. Review the attached PDF files for advice and suggestions. There are hard copies of this pamphlet in the mail shed. Cathy Moore, our Municipal councillor, contacted me today with the great news that Hemford Forest will be receiving wired high speed internet later this fall. This will be funded under a federal program recently announced to expand rural internet. This is welcome news for many homes that endure poor internet speeds.
