Local boss girl Molly Henderson is an ambitious and creative 15-year-old Madoc entrepreneur and the founder of Otter Cloth, a custom clothing company that adds ...the name of your favourite lake or cottage spot to their apparel (great holiday gift idea!) Born into an entrepreneurial family, Molly was excited to start her first job when COVID hit. Mindful that she may not be able to start that job as a result, she channeled her love of the family cottage and the desire for high quality, long-lasting, great-looking, comfortable clothing that featured the name of the lake her family cottage is located on. And voila, Otter Cloth was born! Production for Otter Cloth initially began in the living room at Molly's family cottage and the business operated from there for the summer of 2020. Neighbouring cottage owners and family friends loved the concept and quality of Otter Cloth products. Since the summer, Otter Cloth has grown and word has spread about the unique product line. Now that the winter months are here, the production shop is located in the basement of Molly’s aunt's office building at 214 Pinnacle Street in Belleville. Her production team consists of several of her family members and the company is growing. Another Tuesday, another Business Spotlight! -- I am the fourth generation to be involved in Cole’s Timber Mart. I have lived in this area my entire life, asid...e from living in Kinston and Ottawa while attending college (St. Lawrence) and university (University of Ottawa). My parents, George and Elizabeth Hamilton bought the store off my grandparents, Bill and Marion McIlveen and Aunt Joyce and Uncle Al Robbins in 1988. Laird and Edna Cole our late relatives, are the founders of the business, opening the original Cole’s in Smithfield in 1952; Cole’s being from their last name Cole. We are a retail building supplies store with a large kitchen and bath department specializing in custom kitchens and vanities. We have over 20 years’ experience in the area and are well known for our outstanding service and quality. Our installation department specializes in installing all products we sell, from kitchens to composite decking, windows, doors and all types of renovations. The retail/lumber yard sells building materials and tools to Brighton and the surrounding areas. Being a part of the community and supplying quality products and services brings passion to our business. There’s nothing better than having customers leave our store happier than when they came in. It’s our goal to give the best service. The bar is set high; we intend to continue to raise it. Cole’s was the recipient of the business of the year award from Brighton/Cramahe Chamber of Commerce in 2018. The success of our new Installation Department has been very exciting for us! We’ve been working hard to give our customers quality workmanship and reliable service. It’s been a great venture for us, and we’re excited to see what the future holds. Brandon Freeman, Co-Owner in the Installation business with my father and myself was also born and raised in Brighton. Brandon’s craftsmanship and dedication to quality are second to none. The biggest challenge during COVID-19 is getting certain products into the store. As a company that values service and product availability, it’s been a challenge, to say the least. People have been understanding and patient with the process. We are very grateful to the entire community for their support during these unprecedented times. A perfect day at the store is having everything go as planned. All customers leave the store happy with the product they needed; our shipping department can get deliveries out safely and on time. Essentially, the perfect day is when we can answer all questions, and customers are served without any delay. In the retail world, this is all but a dream. I’ve yet to come across this perfect day. It’s our determination and dedication to the customer that can make most days almost perfect. ~ Mitch Hamilton, 4th Generation, Cole’s Timber Mart -- Cole's Timber Mart 47 Ontario St., Brighton 613 475 2810 www.colestimbermart.ca @colestimbermart on Instagram
