I’m going to gamble that there’s enough past Winnipeg linkage to Beacon, New York-born Henry Small to warrant a Share of this birthday Post on the longtime Canadian resident.

My favourite Jeff Beck Story. ...back in 1975 Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer were playing the Okeefe Centre in Toronto at the very same time the CBS International con...vention was at the Royal York.. My brother and I took the GO train to Union Station and walked across the street to the Royal York to find our Dad who had our tickets to go see Jeff Beck. We arrived at the Royal York only to see the biggest stars in the world there for the convention...Performing and sitting in the room were the Beach Boys, Cher, Simon and Garfunkel (John Rowlands would be able to recite them better than I)... so we found Dad, got our tickets and was told to get out.. ( lol ) ... over to the O'keefe Centre.... Had two pair of tickets ... one in the very front row and one about eight rows back. I remember watching Henry Small in Small Wonder as the opener.. really great band. In between Small Wonder and Jeff Beck I decided to go and sit beside my brother offering the guy beside him the front row...The guy jumped at it... so I sat eight rows back. About four songs into his set Jeff came down to the front of the stage, kneeled down and put his guitar down to let the person in the audience come and strum it while he played it... yep, it was the guy I gave my tickets to.. My brother looked at me and laughed.. I couldn't believe it. wtf... try and do a nice thing and this is how you are rewarded. Great show though. Thought Blow By Blow was one of the best records of the 70's. Ahh.. the memories. To this day I hear this song and it's all I can think of. (by the way.. what a monster bass player he has.. check out this gal)
