Happy Hair Tip - Flaxseed Gel Mask It’s Spring and one of the main reasons this excites me is that I can finally leave my hair open and not hide it under a toque! But that also means managing my hair so I can wear it long and strong. I discovered recently that flaxseed was one of the first crops ever grown by man. It is a superfood, both in terms of nutrition and beauty. Flaxseeds are a powerhouse with a host of nutrients like Vitamins E, B & Omega 3 Fatty acids. These are ...beneficial to improve the elasticity and texture of hair. Here’s an idea for a simple DIY mask for gorgeous hair. It has an egg white like texture & may not be very flattering, but the benefits outweigh the sticky feeling any day. You will need: 1/4 cup flaxseeds 2 cups water 2 tbsp of coconut oil (optional) In a small pan, add flaxseeds & water and bring the mixture to a boil on medium heat. Keep stirring & turn off the stove once you see froth on the surface. Let it cool & strain the mixture using a cheesecloth into a glass jar. Take out as much is needed for a singe use and store the rest in the refrigerator. Add coconut oil to the gel and apply it on your hair & scalp. Cover up with a shower cap. Wash off after an hour with a mild shampoo and condition your hair. The mask leaves you with soft, nourished hair and a healthy bounce. This easy to make gel is an effective remedy for frizz free, strong hair. Other benefits include: Reduces brittleness & hair breakage Boosts hair growth Adds shine to your hair Moisturizes hair Adding flaxseeds to your diet also directly affects your hair, skin and nails. Add them to your salads, smoothies, fruit yogurts and cereals or just have them direct. The high content of Omega 3 & antioxidants makes it an overall health booster. I could go on about these seeds but for now I’ll go and make myself this hair mask! It is shampoo day today and I never do it without either oiling or applying a hair mask for my super dry strands.
