Diet change is essential for a habitable planet. It is no longer a matter of personal preference. We are inheriting the 6th mass extinction of life on Earth and the harms associated with climate change. The profound negative impact that animal agriculture has on the environment, human health, and animal welfare is staggering. Many viruses, such as the COVID-19 virus, can all be traced to have originated from other species. In light of this situation, we are urging McGill to ...act on its claims of sustainability by reforming its food systems. We are thus launching a university-wide campaign calling on McGill University to transition to 100% plant-based menus while providing the possibility to opt-in to animal products by implementing DefaultVeg. DefaultVeg is the concept of making plant-based food the default, while giving diners the choice to add or opt into meals with animal products. Here is the link to our open letter: https://docs.google.com//1ttY46qdM0GsJnvZWJC2A1WUIIu/edit We have the opportunity to make our campuses more sustainable and equitable. There has never been a more crucial time than today to voice our demands and to work towards transformative change. Thank you for your support!
Are you ready to make a real impact? Do you think our food systems are imperfect and need to change? If yes, register for this event by the McGill Global Food Security Club! The Global Food Security Club invites you to a student-led dialogue that aims to give us, the youth and future leaders, the opportunity to voice our concerns and share new solutions to be implemented as corrective actions in the food systems. This is a major opportunity as the key points of our discussion... will be presented at the UN Food Systems Summit in September! We are in association with Dr. Madramootoo, who is supervising this project with us, and who is the coordinator of the Canadian inputs to the Champions Network of the upcoming UN Food Systems Summit. If you wish to join this discussion and even become a facilitator, register with the link below. Participants will also have the chance to win a 25$ gift card!
