Today was a fantastic day as we celebrated the end of our Read-a-thon. The students dressed as their favourite book character and the staff dressed up as crayons from the book The Day The Crayons Quit. Heritage Christian School wishes you a happy and healthy Spring break!

We had some furry visitors this morning. Our kids had a blaaast meeting these day old cuddly kids.

Exciting news from our HCS community! Our Easter gift arrived a bit early this year. Matthias Henry Johan Watts. Born on April 3, at 2:01am. Weighing 8lbs 14 oz, 23 inches long. Mom and baby are doing great! Sending love to Jonathan, Melissa, Emmy, Ruby and baby Matthias from all of us at HCS!

One of our amazing parents, Jennifer Gemmill is selling DIY cupcake kits for the weeks leading up to Christmas! Each kit includes 6 chocolate cupcakes, two types of sprinkles, pretzels, red M&Ms and gummies. Each kit is $25 and all proceeds go to Heritage. She will have a limited number of kits each week so it will be a first come first serve basis.... It's that time of year again! We have various sizes and colours of Poinsettias available. Please place your order on our website at https://www.myhcs.ca/shop no later than November 12th. Payment can be made in the office. Plant pick up will be available on December 1, 2020. Once you have placed your order, you will receive confirmation. One amazing fundraiser we do throughout the year is gift cards! We get a percentage back from each one sold, so every card you purchase helps raise money for the school. Our fabulous educators virtually attended the Edvance Annual Gathering this week. We are grateful that even though we can’t all be physically together, we are still able to connect with Christian schools across Ontario and around the world.

Exciting news! Heritage is hosting an Online Silent Auction featuring gift baskets from local businesses! We certainly miss our community fundraisers, but this will be a fun and safe event as you can bid from the comfort of your own home. Stay tuned for info on how to WIN a basket! Teacher Feature! Spotlight on the lovely Mrs. Joanna Tait. She’s heading off on maternity leave in a few short weeks, we will certainly miss her! Here is a personal message from Mrs. Tait:... I am thankful to be in my third year of teaching grade 7/8 at Heritage Christian School. When I started in 2018 I quickly came to love the strong community and Christian values that surround this school. One of my favourite subjects to teach is Bible class. I have the privilege of teaching this subject to both the grade 7/8 class and the grade 5/6 class. I have enjoyed the many discussions we have had about the Christian faith and how it applies directly to our lives. I am always amazed and encouraged by the insight that students share in class. I love that we can openly discuss these things in a school setting. I will be heading off on maternity leave in the next few weeks and although I am excited for the new adventure of parenthood, I will miss being part of this great community every day.

Heritage will be involved in one of the stops at Farmfest tomorrow! We are volunteering at Mariposa Woolen Mill. We will have apples, cider and other goodies available for purchase. This year at Heritage we brought on a new staff member to take on the role of PR and Donor Management. Introducing Laurie Jolicoeur. Here’s a personal message from Laurie: Hello! My name is Laurie Jolicoeur and I am the new PR and Donor Manager here at Heritage Christian School. I am very excited to be able to help further the vision and mission of Heritage in our community.... My husband Paul and I along with our three children are excited to be part of the HCS family. We are passionate about Christian education and have many years of experience working in ministry as well other community organizations. This year certainly has its unique sets of challenges. However, l feel extremely blessed to be here and am optimistic for what this year holds for Heritage and our community.

Teacher Feature! Spotlight on Kathy Le Gresley, a long time beloved teacher with our HCS family. Here is a personal message from Miss Le Gresley:... I am privileged to have been a part of the Heritage community for three full decades, come June. Who could have imagined when I stepped through the doors in September 1991 that I would still be wandering the halls of our school thirty years later? I’ve worn many hats over the years, having taught all of the grades up to, and including, Grade Five (with the exception of Grade One), as well as resource, primary music, and writing. How I have enjoyed the opportunity to get to know so many of our young studentsand even some of their children as well! It is such a joy to have the opportunity to speak God’s truth into the lives of the young people He has entrusted to our care. He has taught me many things through them that I never would have learned apart from their faithful tutelage. There are so many things I appreciate about Heritage, but none more than the way God’s love permeates everything we do. We do not always get it rightand there have certainly been times when we have failed miserably in the attemptbut the driving force behind every aspect of our school is the love of our Father for every one of His children. I feel it in our classrooms; I sense it in our halls; I perceive it in the relationships shared by parents and teachers and students. I am very blessed to be a part of this wonderful community.

Special thanks to Dave Edney for hosting our grade 7/8 class for a very exciting twist on gym class! On Friday the students participated in varying highland game events including Shot Put, Caper Throw and the infamous Tire Flip! We had a great time. Thanks Dave for having us!

A huge congratulations to our very own grade 2 student Jace Jolicoeur for taking 1st place in the worldwide Caribou Math Contest! Jace achieved a perfect score and placed in the first percentile worldwide, beating the average time and score overall. Pictured with his amazing teacher Miss Greig! ... Last week our students submitted name ideas for our Take Heart robot mascot. The names were then voted on and a winning name was chosen. Congrats to Ella Wilson from Mrs. Tait’s class for submitting the name that would ultimately be given to our mascot. Introducing Terence! Tot Spot is currently seeking to fill a position which consists of cleaning and disinfecting as well as duties pertaining to closing the toddler room. This position is Monday to Friday with varying hours. This year at HCS we welcomed a new teacher to our school family. Introducing Courtney Greig. Here is a personal message from Ms. Greig: Hi! I am Miss Greig, and I am a new teacher at Heritage this year! I just got back from teaching in the UK for two years, and I am so excited to be back in Canada teaching here at Heritage. This year is going to be one which allows a lot of creativity and imagination in finding different ways for the students to learn, and I am excited to wa...tch our grade 1/2 class grow in their learning and most importantly, in their faith. I am looking forward to meeting more families, and I have already been so blessed by those I have already met. Thank you Ms. Greig for taking such great care of Mrs. Sparrow’s class while she is away. We are grateful to have you!

When the sun comes out to play, so do we! Our HCS students and staff successfully completed their first week of school! Everyone did well settling into their new routines. We are excited to continue to learn and grow safely together. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

What an amazing start to the school year we’ve had! The teachers were well prepared and ready to welcome their students. We still have spots available for full time junior primary students. Here at Heritage we love turning challenge into opportunity! This year we have the amazing opportunity to reimagine how to build strong classroom communities, and how to bring those classrooms together while remaining in our socially distanced cohorts. We are pleased to introduce to you our Take Heart robot. He has yet to be named as he will be traveling from classroom to classroom as each class will be given the opportunity to contribute something to him (perhaps a story, ...a song, art, etc) We celebrate that God has given each student and teacher unique gifts and skills that when combined together create a fully working body!
