The Regina Court House was where Louis Riel's trial took place on July 28, 1885. It was decided that Louis Riel would be hung for treason. Much controversy even today still surrounds the trial. He was the only person in Canadian history to be hung for treason. Louis Riel played a vitally important part in founding Manitoba. In 2007 the Manitoba Legislature established the third Monday in February as Louis Riel Day. Manitoba Museum

We're sad to hear that such an iconic music venue is closing, but we are relieved that at least the building will not be left sitting empty. We hope the music will return when the world opens up again.

2005 was the final year for the Ogilvie Flour Mill. Built in 1881, it was the first large scale flour mill in Western Canada. It saw much success over many years, even though the mill caught fire twice. The second fire in 1997 seems to have sealed its fate as it became city property in 1999. The second fire torched much of the original interior, which made it easier to demolish as many of its historical features were lost. READ MORE: http://ow.ly/GbTx50BORvC Winnipeg Free Press

NEW Heritage Winnipeg blog! The Ancestor of Amazon: The T. Eaton Company Mail Order & Catalogue Building Long before the invention of the internet, where you can simply point and click to purchase whatever your heart desires, there were mail order catalogues. With Winnipeg’s prime ...location as a gateway to the the west, it became home to Eaton’s monumental mail order empire, the Amazon of the early 20th century. Did you know that Dalnavert has stood through several pandemics now? The 1918 Influenza virus tore through Winnipeg when the Macdonalds still lived in the house.... Masks were an important part of public health and safety back then, too. In years to come, masks from the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 will be a little piece of material history. This limited edition Dalnavert 125 masks will go to donors who contribute $125 to our drive, to make sure Dalnavert can keep telling its stories for another 125 years. For more info and to donate today, visit https://www.friendsofdalnavert.ca/dalnavert-125 [Pictured: Ayda wearing the Dalnavert 125 limited-edition mask in Veranda Brown] See more
