It's #AutismAwarenessDay! According to the Canadian Medical Association Journal, approximately 2% of the Canadian population is on the autism spectrum, meaning there are approximately 135,000 autistic people in Ontario. Today we wanted to showcase, Dan Aykroyd. A Canadian actor, producer, comedian, musician and filmmaker who is on the autism spectrum. Being diagnosed with mild Asperger’s Syndrome as a child, Aykroyd has been pretty honest and upfront about his experiences wit...h the autism spectrum. Did you know - he credits his writing of ghostbusters was due to him being on the spectrum!

Meet RJ Mitte, an actor, who is using his disability to excel in Hollywood. On the hit TV series Breaking Bad, RJ played Walter, a young man with cerebral palsy. RJ himself was diagnosed with CP when he was a toddler. As one of the few television actors with a visible disability, RJ is helping shed light on CP in an industry that hasn't seen much of it. RJ suffered from bullying when he was younger due to his disability. Today, he acts as the celebrity spokesperson for #CutTheBull", encouraging people to take the pledge and stand up against bullying in schools.

#Henryford knew his stuff. Having a disability shouldn't limit your success or prospect of a healthy and happy life. When organizations and companies are properly equipped with the right tools and knowledge to accommodate those with disabilities, anything is possible.

#Access is vital. If we limit the #accessibility to facilities, resources, or opportunity, we limit potential for enjoyment, growth, partnerships, and exclude a large margin of society. Following the leadership and guidelines from #DavidOnley, who was diagnosed with polio when he was young, is the first Lieutenant Governor with a physical disability, we strive to ensure all organizations and corporations are #accessibilityfriendly, considering all persons with #disabilities when designing, renovating, and planning for the future.
