This is something few Canadians give much thought to. We lose some every year in our small military. They sign on the dotted line. They serve their country and often that means going in to bad places to do their job. The "cheque" they sign when they swear to serve is good "up to and including my life". As we look back on 2020, let's remember our brothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice.... That ticket asked s to open envelope # 18 which revealed the 6 of spades. Therefore he did not win the jackpot of $4,258.50. This amount will be held until the draw resumes. Write a Christmas card to our deployed troops. This Christmas will definitely be difficult and different for all of us, but in the Spirit of Giving we are sending out an opportunity for you to add some Christmas cheer to our Canadian troops stationed away from home during the holiday season. Individual cards require stamps, but.....if you put a number of cards in a big envelope or small box, you only pay one postage, for the package. Here is the address for mailing your card...s, if you'd like to participate. I'm sure it will mean a great deal to our soldiers deployed by getting a Christmas wish from those of us back here in Canada. Good evening my fellow members. Don't know if you heard or not but Waterloo Region is moving into Code Red and the branch will not be opening until further notice. With this code we are only allowed 10 people at a time in the building so it is not an option to remain open. Sorry for this inconvenience but rules are rules and we don't need to throw money away on fines. Thank you for your understanding and all be safe. Branch 272 Executive. Just a brief update on the Poppy ...campaign. We collected to date 35K and I would like to thank all who made this possible. Thanks, as I didn't think this would be achievable this year, just down by 15K from previous year. Poppy campaign or year end is September 30/21, so donations can still be submitted if anyone is thinking of doing this. Stay safe and make the best of a situation we have no control over Remember your masks . Your Poppy Committee. See more

Pause. Reflect. Remember. #LestWeForget

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 272 Hespeler 13.08.2020

Every year beginning the last Friday in October until Remembrance Day on November 11th, millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual Pledge to honour Canada’s Veterans and remember those who Sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today. While the Poppy is distributed freely to all who wish to wear one, the Legion accepts donations for the Veteran’s Poppy Fund. This year is going to be an especially tough year for our Veterans due to the COVID pandemic that has shut doors, pre...vented normal access to services, and stopped loved ones from being able to interact with their heroes and loved ones. Annually at Branch 272 Hespeler, we collectively donate over $40,000.00 back to our Veteran’s community from our Poppy drive. At Branch 272 Hespeler we will continue to canvas for our Veterans in our community. Although we will be restricted from direct social contact with the public, our Branch Members and Veterans will still be canvasing where we are permitted while following the mandatory heath regulations. This year we will have our counter donation boxes out in local businesses with their permission. We will also have donation kiosks staffed by our branch volunteers at the Lowes, Zehrs, Canadian Tire, Shoppers Drug Mart, Food Basics and Walmart. Volunteers will be set up so there is no social contact as you obtain your Poppy. Unfortunately, due to the cost associated we are not cashless at our Poppy kiosks at this time. However those wishing to make an Electronic Transfer Donation they can do so by setting up an transfer under the following email: [email protected] If requested, receipts can be provided for donations of $20.00 or more and feel free to pick up a Poppy at any location. Due to COVID this year we are not permitted to hold our normal large service at the Hespeler Cenotaph. We will however place all our wreaths at the Cenotaph on the morning of November 11th and encourage citizens to visit the Cenotaph on their own throughout the day to pay their respects to our Veterans and Soldiers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Citizens are also encouraged to watch the National Service held in Ottawa on their TV and our standout in front of your homes at 11:11am for a moment of silence and pay your personal respects. Executive Members of the Branch 272 and Veteran volunteers will pay their respects on November 11th in a smaller group ceremony. Please continue to support our Veterans in these trying times. Lest We Forget
