SO WHAT IS TFP EXACTLY? TFP (Time for Print) is a concept in photography where instead of paying each other for services, the photographer agrees to provide the model with a certain number of images and a permission to use them in exchange for signing the model's release. This is a mutually beneficial, non-commercial cooperation between a photographer and a model, joint creativity to replenish each other’s portfolios and implement new ideas! Sounds pretty sweet right?... If you don’t know exactly what it is and how to protect yourself and your rights, then I regret to inform you that it will come back and bite you in the ass. The term Time for Print has been so misinterpreted and skewed on the internet, that it is now so easy to get used, especially if you’re just starting your photography business. Here are a couple of general rules you need to know: 1. The Photographer is responsible for choosing location, studio and equipment rental. 2. The Model is responsible for wardrobe and makeup. 3. The Model gets a permission to use images for their portfolio. 4. The Photographer selects a certain amount of images for colour correction + retouching and sends it to the model. 5. The amount of editing is up to a Photographer. 6. The total time for selecting, retouching and releasing photos may vary. 7. Images are NOT to be altered by the model at any times. It can be viewed as copyright infringement and you may be prohibited from using the images. 8. The model has NO RIGHT to sell your images. 9. Photographer is not obligated to provide you with images in RAW format. 10. It is highly recommended to have a TFP agreement, clearly outlining all the rules. Most importantly, TFP is NOT A FREE LABOUR! Any type of commercial work, or public events, such as weddings, have to be paid and have nothing to do with TFP! Even though there’s no monetary reward, you should still think of TFP as a cost of the models time for the cost of photographers work. TFP is not a FREEBIE! Both the model and the photographer STILL WORK and they WORK HARD! And the final result will reflect on their portfolios. #HetmanChronicles #photographyblog #portrature

STOP RELYING ON YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO SUPPORT YOUR BUSINESS! But before you read why, side note: I’m accepting requests for shampoo commercials. DM me Now, let’s get serious! And even though it may sound cliche as hell, but you should give yourself support FIRST instead of waiting for others to give it to you! ... The moment you start caring too much about how only one out of your three friends liked a photo you took sad to say, but it is no longer for you. The quality of your work will start getting worse from there, because instead of thoroughly selecting content for YOUR portfolio that reflects YOUR unique vision and is meant for YOUR unique audience, you will be rushing to post more photos on Instagram for recognition and likes of people closest to you - it’s a bad habit, which is very hard to get out of. How do I know all of this? Because it already happened to me before!! Also, if you’re really looking for someone to critique your work, you shouldn’t always have your friends and relatives as your first choice because... 1. They always like everything you do because you’re related and that’s what family does 2. They don’t wanna tell you they don’t like something because they don’t wanna hurt you 3. They will tell you they don’t like something and it will hurt you lol So, if you catch yourself noticing that the passion of yours turned into a race for acknowledgment and is rather draining than fulfilling, ask yourself: WHY did I start doing it in the first place? And it will only get better from there Well, other than that, super kudos to my gorgeous model @andreiabmartins who bravely dealt with my mad directing skills on set Keep an eye on the hashtag #HetmanChronicles for more nonsense like this #beautyphotography #torontofashionphotographer #nikonambassador #sigmacanada #elegantstyle #portraitart #editorialphotography #torontophotographyblog #retouchingpanels
