FAILURE - Have you ever noticed that I have never referred to myself as a REGISTERED dietitian? Because I am not one. I failed the Canadian Dietetic Registration exam not once, but TWICE. After failing people asked me, well what field are you going to work in now? and my answer was the same one .. because that is what I am passionate about. We are encouraged throughout our degree to work in a hospital or food service setting after we graduate. Meanwhile, I focused my time... and energy into learning about sport nutrition, nutrition/mental health, fuelling our bodies, etc. even though they didn't fit in those environments. We are told we should be an RD, otherwise we will never find a job. So here I am saying we don't always fit the norm, and that doesn’t mean I haven't worked my ass off just as hard to get where I am. It took two failures for me to learn I have not celebrated what I have already achieved. I have only focused on my failures. I am confident in my skills, I am confident in my ability to help others better their nutrition, fitness, mental health, confidence, and meet their goals. So I’m not great at writing exams, tell me something I don't know! I don’t need an exam or an acronym behind my name to keep me going. I have the education, and the drive to continue to learn, research and grow. If I hadn't of failed, I wouldn't have reflected on how far I’ve come, I wouldn't be pushing myself as hard as I do. I am going to continue doing what I love no matter what gets in my way. So never let a failure stop you, let it fuel your fire and drive you! Just because you don't fit how the system would like you, doesn't mean you don't deserve it and won't achieve it!

Everything I put into my body gets used to support some sort of function ... and that’s pretty damn cool.

I have had the pleasure of working with @papacharlieley on his nutrition at @902athletics . At 60 years old Charlie got first place in his first Olympic Lifting competition as well as qualifying for the 2020 Regionals, along with an upcoming Crossfit competition and much much more ahead. The dedication and consistency of this man is incredible. I can always count on him to go above and beyond what we set in place. Looking forward to seeing him kick butt in 2020!

What scares you while exciting you? What gets your heart pounding and your mind spinning in the best way? Whatever it is, do more of it.
