It’s been a tough month for my anxiety and depression (raise your hand if you’re with me in this ) but I have been working hard on myself and the future of the shop and I’m happy to say that things are looking up on both fronts! Thank you to everyone for their kind words and encouragement in the last couple of days. You have filled this dumpling maker’s heart. Hey, Dumplings! will continue at the shop for as long as I can. The honest truth is that it’s not going to be that much longer. While I appreciate all the support from Vancouver, my business is so heavily dependent on tourism. And that is not coming back anytime soon. For now, the hours for the shop will be Mon 12-7 Tue 4-late at the Keefer Ba...r Wed, Thurs, Fri 12-7 Closed Sat and Sun. Real talk. How are you doing? I am struggling. The dichotomy of wanting people to come to my restaurant and my rising panic of the increasing COVID numbers is doing a number to my head. My gut feeling is that we need to lock down again and be serious about the pandemic. This would mean the probable end of my little shop. I love serving you dumplings, but it’s just dumplings. Is that worth risking your, and my, health for? I used to tell my staff (when I had staff) that in cus...tomer service you only need 4 jokes. By the time you rotate through, there are new customers in line who haven’t heard the first one yet. My favourite is saying be safe out there as people leave. I do mean that. Stay inside. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. But please come to the downtown Eastside and buy dumplings doesn’t fit that. I also don’t want to introduce new people to my neighbours. This is a very vulnerable population down here. I don’t want to be responsible for an outbreak because i want people to my store. Where do we go from here? Is anyone else having a second wave of intense anxiety? I’m finding that as things open up my anxiety and panic attacks are getting worse again.
