HFD participated in flowpath training last night with simulated structures that were created. The training was beneficial for firefighters to learn first hand important topics such as; fire growth, reading smoke, flowpath considerations, door control, ventilation, and much more. Great opportunity to see how firefighting activities and construction methods can impact fire behaviour. Shout out to the HFD Officers for putting this program together for our staff.
Thanks to HFD officers for spending most of their Sunday creating flowpath training aids for training this week. These tools will provide our firefighters an excellent opportunity to learn about how air flow affects for conditions in a structure fire.
This weekend, when you change your clocks, don't forget about changing your smoke alarm batteries. Even some hardwired alarms have batteries as a backup. Testing your smoke alarm is always a good idea to ensure everything is in working order.
HFD crews spent time this week reviewing their First Aid skills to ensure our certification remains up to date. CPR was completed the week prior and First Responder recertification late March for the Medical Team. Busy few weeks recertifying medical knowledge.

HFD wants you to be safe on the ice this winter. Wear a floater suit. Have ice picks ready in case you fall through. Use a spud bar to check ice thickness. Never go out alone. If you live near a larger lake, stay of the pack ice, it is extremely dangerous. Remember, no ice is safe ice. #staysafe #enjoywinter #wintericesafety
Don’t suffer alone. Reach out, use resources. We are all in this together. When you are on our team, you’re part of our family. #BellLetsTalk
Do you use a fireplace or woodstove to heat your home? HFD Home Heating TIP #1 Make sure the wood you are burning in your fireplace or woodstove is seasoned dry hardwood. Softwood or wet wood will increase the buildup of creosote in your chimney which may result in a chimney fire. Make sure you have smoke and CO alarms installed in your residence. #staywarm #staysafe #befiresmart
Winter is here again. Please help the Hanover Fire Department and your neighbors by keeping the fire hydrants clear of snow on all sides. Send us a picture of the hydrant in front of your house with the snow cleared. #everysecondcounts #itmaybeyourhome #neighborshelpingneighbors
The residents of the Hanover Care Centre took a tour around the subdivision last night to see all the beautiful Christmas lights. It was such a great time! A Sp...ecial Thank you to Rob Hagan for the fire truck escort for keeping everyone safe! Thank you to all the amazing staff for volunteering their time to do this. See more
Thank you to a local resident who dropped this off for our firefighters to say thank you. She indicated that she hasn’t needed us yet, but is thankful that we are ready if she does. You’re welcome Heather. It is our pleasure, and our duty, to be ready when you need some extra help.
Congratulations to Captain Chris Karcher who received a gift from Mayor Patterson for his 20 years of service with Hanover Fire. He also received an exemplary service medal from the Governor General of Canada. Thank you Captain Karcher for your dedication and commitment to this community!

Hanover Firefighters Association Stuff the Truck event last weekend was a huge success. Here our President, Operator Marshall presents the gifts and funds to Bruce Grey Mentorship for distribution to those that can benefit. Thank you to those that contributed. We made sure that all the gifts were quarantined before distributing.
Meet our HFD leadership team. 6 officers with a combined total of over 120 years of fire suppression and rescue experience, over 25 NFPA proboard certifications, certified first responders, countless hours of on scene work, and too many fire related certificates to count. Proud to have this team lead our amazing firefighters.

HFD installed our new #ivegotyourback911 decals on each of our front line pumps. Mental health safety is a significant consideration for our team. Having constant reminders like this is a great way to let our members know we are here for them. Thanks to Ivegotyourback911 for the decals.
Here is HFD’s newest prevention activity. Take Flat Sparky on a fire safety tour of your home and send us pictures of your adventure. Sparky loves to be part of fire safe activities in the home. We can’t wait to see what you can do.
All HFD apparatus have tablets installed for crews. These tools are invaluable for many types of emergencies; mapping hydrants in route, hazardous material assessment, accountability of crews on scene, tactical information for incident command, drone flight information, and so much more. We look for new ways of using technology to keep our crews safe and our operations effective.
HAPPENING NOW: Hanover Firefighters Association is currently at Hanover Giant Tiger until 3pm today. Collecting items that will be donated to Bruce Grey Mentorship. See the flyer for details. Look for the Ladder truck with the Flag! Please respect COVID-19 safeties.
HFD has responded to a number of incidents on roadways in the past few weeks. Please remember to be attentive when you see emergency lights in the distance. Driving around emergency vehicles blocking the roadway places all first responders in danger. Your efforts ensure we return home to our families.
Thank you to PWU Connects for the generous donation of $3000 towards the purchase of a new motor of our Rescue Boat. This boat assists HFD with water rescue operations in the area. These funds will ensure that this boat is always ready for emergencies. Thank you PWU Connects from HFD!! Town of Hanover
Don't forget to come out TOMORROW and support Stuff-A-Truck for Youth. Details below! @Bruce Grey Mentorship @Giant Tiger
Hanover Fire wants you to have a safe and happy Holiday Season. Please use candles safely or use LED flameless candles. #befiresafe, #smokealarmssavelives, #happyholidays
A busy week of training at HFD. Pump Operators completed practical apparatus driving exercises with 4 activity courses completed. This ensures a solid understanding of each of HFD apparatus. Firefighters completed Firefighter Down CPR as well as Negotiating Restricted Openings. These activities focus on firefighter safety during emergency operations. A job well done by all firefighters and officers.
A busy week for our volunteer firefighters. Officer meeting, apparatus checks, recruit training on investigations and life safety, and a presentation by Paratech Fire & Rescue Equipment on new structural supports. Oh, and a couple of emergency incidents as well. What a crew!
HFD pays tribute to Canadian Armed Forces members. We honour your sacrifice for our freedom. #LestWeForget.
Thank you to A.J. Stone Company and Paratech Fire & Rescue Equipment for the training last night on our new heavy stabilizers last night. An opportunity to also get a review on our medium duty stabilizers from the manufacturer. Great ideas generate lots of possibilities to help our residents when they need it most.
The snow last night didn’t stop our crews from completing monthly apparatus checks. These checks ensure that equipment and apparatus is always at peak performance and ready for any emergency or call for service we receive.
Hanover Firefighter Association will again be working with Giant Tiger Hanover on Saturday December 5 from 11 am to 3 pm for our annual stuff a truck event. Donations will be provided to Bruce Grey Mentorship for distribution to those in need. COVID safeties will be in place and the event will be held outside. Look for the fire apparatus in the Giant Tiger parking lot.
Fire Chief John Thompson (retired) had his memorial last ride today, past the fire station where he spent over 40 years of his life. Many fire departments from the area took part to honour the Chief. Thank you to Dundalk Fire Department for the invite to be a part of such a moving event. Rest easy Chief. Thank you for your service.
With great sadness that we advise that PC Marc Hovingh, a 28 year veteran of the OPP, has succumbed to his injuries sustained while bravely serving in the line of duty. Our hearts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this tragic time #HeroesInLife
