Just a reminder that Habitat Northumberland is walking in the Coldest Night of the Year. Both Staff and our Partner families are walking to raise awareness for one of our community partners, @greenwoodcoalition. We are walking alongside those in our community who need support. Partner families and their supporters are able to contribute to their volunteer hours by walking. 1km = 1 hour, up to 5 hours. We have two teams, 71 walkers contributing hours and money. ... With the official walk date 3 days away, we would like to reach our goal of $1,000.00, we are only $215 away, can you help us, help Greenwood? https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/TeamFundraisingPage.aspx

Today is 211 Day. It is recognized across North America. Here in Ontario, we want to educate everyone that calling 211 means that you are accessing community, government, social and health services. What falls under that? Home care Support Mental Health Support Employment Services ... Community Programs Housing and Income Supports Make the right call, know when to call 211 instead of 911.

The Coldest Night of the Year is a moment when tens of thousands of Canadians step outside the warmth and comfort of home and shine a light of welcome and inclusion. We recognize that homelessness, violence, hunger are all experienced in our community and this is a way for all of us to show support. This year, Habitat Northumberland has entered a team in the Coldest Night of the Year virtual 5km walk. Both staff and partner families have joined. Our staff are raising awaren...ess and some funds towards one of our community partners Green Wood Coalition. Our partner families and their friends are using the walk to cotribute towards their volunteer hours required for homeownership. For each kilometre a team member walks, equals a volunteer hour. If you would like to donate to our team, and help to cheer us on, we would be very grateful. We'll keep you updated with pictures throughout February as we walk in our community. https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/TeamFundraisingPage.aspx

The recipes are flowing into us now and we would like to keep them coming! Not sure if everyone will like your recipe, or that it might not be perfect? That's ok. We're not about perfection here, we're more about sharing the love and helping some families. On a super happy note, today we had two submissions from Germany! GERMANY!?! A habitat employee's mum passed on this lovely recipe for 'blowing snow' dessert. We can't wait to share it in the cookbook! Email Melissa Cranston with your delicious ideas at [email protected].

Help donate hours towards Habitat families: it's as easy as pie! As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Habitat for Humanity Northumberland has had to significantly reduce volunteer opportunities for everyone including our partner families who need hours in order to move into their new homes. We have had to come up with a creative way for families to build their volunteer hours during 2021 or until we can resume our routine operations. ... Introducing the Habitat For Humanity Northumberland Cookbook! It will be full of delicious recipes submitted from our partner families and the community. So we want your recipes! All community submissions must include written instructions and a photo or drawing of the finished product. Each recipe submitted by a community member will result in 1 volunteer hour to each partner family working towards completing their hours, to a maximum of 25 hours per family. There are currently 10 families working on completing their hours, so we need lots of help. Deadline for submissions Monday February 15th, 2021, Family Day. For more information or to submit a recipe please contact: Melissa Cranston - [email protected]

As we near the end of 2020, we wanted to share a happy moment that happened this past fall. We are a little bit closer to housing a family in Bewdley. We moved a house from Cobourg to Bewdley and are in the midst of renovating it. Here are some shots of it on the steel beams. And here is one of our volunteers, Jim, who has continued to help out on the build site during the pandemic. Happy little thoughts that we wanted to share.

The annual Gingerbread Festival held by Habitat For Humanity Northumberland was reimagined for 2020. With uncertainty surrounding what the COVID restrictions would be around December, we opted for virtual festival. What we wanted to capture was the spirit of past festivals that focused on joy, hope, community and home. We hope you enjoy and share the love.
