I would like to take some time to write that on behalf of our Kraft Committee, that we’re deeply sorry for the passing of a community member(s) last night - our... friends, Jumbo Sock & Seth Monahan. We would like to send our condolences to both of their families, friends, and to our whole community of Elsipogtog our strength and prayers are with you. As I was scrolling through my Facebook trying to find the right words, or any words I was able to read so many stories of both of these amazing men. The crews are working tirelessly to prepare for the season. Last year the week of April 23rd is when most set sail to their zones. Most will be ready but it doe...sn't look like their fishing grounds will be. Many vessels have made the trip from our port to only find that their destination port is iced in or they faced white knuckle sailing dodging ice flows along the way. Another case of the tail wagging the dog, government forcing the opening of a season for the greater good. Whatever happened to right to refuse dangerous work or working in a safe environment? Yes working on the water inherently poses certain risks to begin with but why add to that level of risk for everyone to earn their living. Our boats aren't equipped for ice breaking like the larger vessels in Northern ports. Let's hope that everyone can stay out of harm's way and are able to make safe voyage to and from their assigned fishing areas. To all fishers braving these conditions, stay safe!

Lobster Update for March 27th, 2020: Based on the most recent conference calls and market information, it is becoming increasingly clear that a regular lobster ...season cannot happen. These are unprecedented times and together the Federal Government, DFO, Industry representatives and Associations are trying to figure out how best to move forward. Our Federal Government, in conjunction with DFO and industry, is currently putting together an aid package for our fishery. We must stress that this is just the start of discussions and negotiations between our industry and Government. The intent is that if the package is good enough, we, as an industry will agree to put aside our lobster season for 2020 and not fish. Once the final package is ready, all fishers will get to vote on whether or not they wish to accept the contents of the package and not fish this year. We are all working together to ensure that the best possible offer is presented. Once finalized, it will be presented to everyone for review and then voted on. Vote results will be able to be submitted either electronically via email or facebook, or over the phone. Due to the continuing Coronavirus crisis, we are avoiding paper as much as possible. These are difficult times and will require unique solutions to ensure that everyone gets through with the least hardship possible. We will keep everyone updated as soon as new information is available.
