Happy to announce two of my students have both Clinched the #1 Ranking for Juniors in China for both Male and Female. Sandy Cao and Jordan Zhao have also both won the China Volvo Junior Masters this week which make this the first time at this big Major. Both hardworking students have trusted the process along the way and Sandy has also been picked to be in the China Olympic team for golf for the 2020 summer Olympic in Beijing. It’s been great working with her over a year now from when she was ranked #11 and now taken the #1 spot. She had so much talent and discipline with a great attitude work ethic to boot. Both have aspirations of the LPGA and PGA tour and they are definitely starting wirh the right guidance and moving in the right direction.

How to Develop A PGA Champion. We have Johnny hitting his Driver, consistently 140 yards straight. Not bad for an 8 year old. This boy has the whole package. His fitness, mental game and passion to be a champion are all there. His parents both support him with encouragement, and positive reinforcement but don’t push him too hard. Over my 30 years of coaching 1000’s of juniors I have never seen a child that’s super talented get pushed hard by their parents excel at... the game long term. Finding the balance With a soft push but knowing when to back off and nurture was something Tiger Woods father did really well. A child that doesn’t absolutely love the game has to be exposed and develop a passion for golf first and foremost. After developing 9 juniors into golf professionals it’s pretty easy to see patterns of greatness, and Johny has it.

Working on Tempo and soft hands for wedge shots with a metronome with Sandy over the holiday. This year ranked 11th in China for Junior Girls we have created and implemented a big training plan to get into top 5 by end of the summer.

Simple put, one cannot ever create power, golf ball control or lower their scores if they are not able to first strike the ball consistently in the center of the club face. When focusing on 1. center face contact will one be able to produce control of ball, more Consistent ball carry distances, more spin and distance allowing you produce lower scores. Here I hit 20 shots with a pitching wedge focusing on a short compact swing with smooth tempo. Easy to produce consistent carry distances and spin, stopping the ball close to where it lands.

Working on Lag Putting with Johnny. Most golfers lose many shots in lag putting on their first putt leaving themselves outside 1 yard from the hole, leading to many 3 putts. Keep track of your putts over 18 holes. PGA tour average 27-29. Drill. Practice with 4 balls from 4 different places on the green varying distance. 20, 30, 40, 50 feet. Must stay at each distance until you get min. 3 out of 4 balls inside 1 yard from hole. If your not successful start again a...nd learn from each. Make sure you go through your full preshot Routine. So yesterday I went to check my driver with the Titleist Rep. in Shanghai. Wow, again great progress. Once I was fitted for the right shaft, kick point, flex, weight, loft and the right ball the difference was pretty profound. Technology should be embraced at every level. Pro V1X kept my launch angle up, but backspin down, like magic.

A position not many golfers focus on. Also not something many coaches even discuss or work on with students. I have spent a long time working on this position and getting here at high speeds, and it produces amazing results, ball control, and distance. Understanding what to do is one thing, but realizing why your not able to get here and how to fix it is the key to finding a good coach. How do you hit the desired draw? Learning to hit a draw should be something every golfer learns early in there career. A ball that starts right and turns back to the left to the pin, is a shot that gets many golfers excited, but yet most will never be able to achieve. 95% of golfers will always hit a slice and everything that they do to prevent seems to make it worse. Golf is a game that if you let your instinct take over it will make you much worse. So here it is. Pla...ce a club down a few feet in front of the ball pointing at your designated target. Now to make the ball start right and draw your club face has to be facing slightly right of the target and your club path has to be more right. To do so turn your feet and shoulders right (closed) for a RH player. The most important action next is to commit and trust this in to out path. This will feel much like a top spin in Tennis. I use a Flightscope to help the player see what he/she is doing. This action will not feel at all natural and will be completely counterintuitive. Good Luck. I am very grateful that I have been able to work with you over the past 2 years and help you with your mental game. You have such a bright future.

Elephant Trunk Hold. Working on maintaining the arc and increasing range of motion while maintaining posture.

Great to be able to coach at such a big event. The Eddie Hogan Cup played by many big names such as Tiger Woods, Fred Couples etc. brings the top boys from Western side of North America to compete in a big team event. Being the returning champions from 2013 brings with it a lot of pressure, but a strong 2nd day had our talented BC squad finish in the middle of the pack.

"Thanks Coach, You groomed his swing, and this is his first big payoff." Kind words from a parent who appreciates the effort and value of what I do as a coach. Of course you have to give most of the credit to the student. A coach pave's the path, but the student has to choose to stay on it.
