If you’re part of Highview or have been tuning in online at all lately, you’ve probably already picked up that Prayer is a central focus at Highview, not just as part of our Two Year Strategy, but out of our deep need to know and be known by God. Over the Christmas season, we have a daily opportunity to press more deeply into prayer through our Advent Prayer Calendar. This will be available both online and in paper form, beginning next Sunday, November 29.... If you want a paper copy, please let our Prayer Squad leader Ann King know by sending her an email at [email protected]. Otherwise, stay tuned for how to connect online. This is a beautiful way for us to connect during this time of separation...all of us praying together each day through Advent.

This week we posted 5 quit resistant beliefs from Romans 8:18-30 as encouragement as we continue through the pandemic and into winter. To summarize: Suffering is doing good work in us! Let’s cooperate with that! Creation is groaning so let’s ‘comfort’ (take care of) the earth and our bodies. Hope is patient so let’s wait for God’s perfect timing.... The Spirit is interceding so let’s pray for all we’re worth. God wins so let’s refuse to live defeated. Nevertheless, we persist!!!! We persist because He prevails! Tomorrow we’ll grab on to the even bigger truth of how God acts on our behalf. Check out the sermon online at hcckw.ca, or register for our in-person service.

Today we have our fifth and final quit resistant belief from Romans 8:18-30. GOOD NEWS! GOD. IS. WINNING!!! If you’re feeling defeated?... Drawing in, giving up? Isolating, not just physically but even spiritually? Maybe you can feel the inward draw in a self pitying, self absorbed kind of way. Good news!! God is winning. We will persist. We are doing this together. We refuse to live defeated. Romans 8:28-30 - "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified."

The Spirit is interceding! In romans 8:27 we find our fourth quit-resistant belief. Have you ever felt so overwhelmed by loss or grief that words cannot describe your internal anguish? It is like our spirit is groaning. The Spirit hears our groaning and, like a blanket on a cold night, He envelopes us. He is right there with us, acting as an interpreter to bring our wordless groaning before the throne of God.... When we don’t know what to pray.He does. The Spirit is interceding so let’s bring our groaning to God! Romans 8:27 - "And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God."

In Romans 8:23-25 we find our third quit-resistant belief that hope is patient. Here is an excerpt from Sunday's sermon: Hope trusts that God is on the way. Hope knows that God has every resource at His disposal to fix this whole big mess. Hope trusts. Hope knows.... Hope is patient. so let’s wait for God’s timing. Let’s just wait. Cease striving against the life the virus has left us inand know that He is God. " Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently." - Romans 8:23-25
