Bear Lake - nestled in the heart of Whiteshell Provincial Park - will forever be my most favourite trail. The trail meanders through the woods, over the Canadian shield. The woods, filled with moss and lichen, and old sturdy trees. There is so much about Bear Lake to love. This photo by @jackman_r captures is BREATHTAKING. The trail nears the end with a sensational view overlooking Bear Lake. Heading down the rocky outcrops, hikers get the most delicious treat at the end of t...he trail... a perfect picnic spot nestled on a little nook. The best bit is that hiking this out-and-back trail is just as fresh and and delightful as the way in. Here’s a couple tidbits: camping is not permitted at Bear Lake. There are washrooms, picnic tables, and garbage bins at the trailhead. Please pack out what you pack in. You can use Google Maps to get to the trailhead. #hikemanitoba #optoutside #beanoutsider #inyourownbackyard #manitoba #thegoodlife #thegreatoutdoors #exploremb #onlyinthepeg #shelterathome #thecanadiancollective #wildandfree #hikemoreworryless #hikingmanitoba #ywg #bearlake #whiteshell

Happy Friday, folks! If you’re heading out to Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive trail, please be aware that the gate and washrooms are still closed. Please follow the few rules they have established: No dogs. Stay on the trail.... No smoking. These few simple rules are in place to preserve and protect the unique but fragile ecosystem. Be safe. Have fun. Take care! And enjoy these GORGEOUS photos by @alexander.albani. #hikemanitoba #optoutside #beanoutsider #inyourownbackyard #manitoba #thegoodlife #thegreatoutdoors #exploremb #onlyinthepeg #shelterathome #thecanadiancollective #wildandfree #hikemoreworryless #hikingmanitoba #ywg

Pine Point Self-Guiding Trail in Whiteshell Provincial Park is an absolute DELIGHT in the winter. On the Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail with @carlaeher. This trail is technically closed through the winter months but visitors are still welcome to use the trail. Loving all the gold tones of this photo! #hikemanitoba #optoutside #beanoutsider #happyhiking #hikingmanitoba #hikemoreworryless #brokenheadwetlands
Hot tip of the day: dogs are not permitted - in any season - on the Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail. Not if they’re leashed, not even if they’re very, very good. The ONLY exception is for REGISTERED guide dogs - because this is an accessible trail, these working canines are welcome. Because I released a book encouraging hiking, I feel it partly my responsibility to offer gentle reminders about trail guidelines. That responsibility is shared, however, with those accessin...g the trails. To maintain a mutually enjoyable and respectful relationship with other trail users, please follow the directions of the signage at the trailhead. Dogs - even the very best ones - damage things. The fragile ecosystem and delicate plant life are unique to Manitoba and easily damaged. Dogs pee on EVERYTHING. When unleashed - or loosely leashed - they trample things. Damage can and does occur during the winter that impacts the ecosystem come warmer months. And dog poop?! It is always your responsibility to clean up after your dog. There are so many other options; please reconsider visiting Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail if you’re hiking with your dog. Please do not leave your dog in the car if you’re hiking the trail. #hikemanitoba #optoutside #beanoutsider #manitoba #inyourownbackyard #thecanadiancollective #thegoodlife #thegreatoutdoors #exploremb #shelterathome #hikemoreworryless #hikingmanitoba #manitobamaker #brokenheadwetlands
Name that trail! There are few trails left where the wild Prosecco can be found, nestled in the snow. #optoutside #hikemanitoba #beanoutsider #thecanadiancollective #manitoba #204 #ywg
