A new website header for spring.
Here is a fun game with a great price. We had the pleasure of exploring these trails and the lighthouse last fall.
If you missed it we talked about hiking and snowshoeing options in the Maritime provinces today. Discussion starts around the 17 minute mark. Let me know your favourite winter hike. https://www.cbc.ca///clip/15815657-surprise-wedding-hiking
I am on at noon. Call in to ask your questions about hiking in the Maritimes.
Hiking and music! What a great combination. Happening tomorrow (Sunday due to weather) on the Tryon River Trail at 1pm. https://www.cbc.ca//pei-fun-things-october-17-18-2020-1.57
There is a harbour in Skinner's Pond. At the end of the breakwaters there were lots of birds. Cormorants on the left breakwater and seagulls on the right. We joked that they must be having a turf war. To get to the beach on the other side of the harbour you have to go around the inner harbour and cross a small bridge. We didn't explore this end of the beach because the bridge and road around the inner harbour were full of trucks and we didn't want to be in the way of the fishermen doing their work. That means we have to go back sometime in the off hours and explore the western section of beach. Trail info coming soon.
The Skinner's Pond area is a beautiful stretch of beach with views of the windmills to the north. A great place to take a walk. And don't forget to stop in and visit the Stompin' Tom Centre across the road. Trail Info coming soon.
If you like lighthouses PEI is the place for you. And the good news is there are trails and beach walks around most of them. Trail info coming soon.
Did you know that there is an Inn at West Point Lighthouse, and a museum in the lighthouse all the way to the top? We didn't. There are also some woods trails behind the lighthouse and a long beach to walk on. Trail info coming soon.
What a beautiful place to explore. From the beach to the forest trails to the museum in the lighthouse. Will definitely be returning to explore here some more. #hikingpei Trail info coming soon.
The red cliffs, blue skies and white windmills are a great reflection of the Acadian Culture in the North Cape region of PEI. Trail info coming soon.
I have wanted to explore the Black Marsh Trail for many years and finally we got the chance to visit. It didn't disappoint. The views were spectacular. Trail info coming soon.
We had a beautiful day yesterday exploring North Cape. From Skinners Pond to the Black Marsh Trail to Jacques Cartier Provincial Park the views were amazing. Trail info coming soon.
There is a lot of history along the Confederation Trail in Kensington. I took a short walk and read 10 signs about the history of the railroad in the area, culminating at an old train engine that is parked along the trail. http://www.hikingpei.ca/Trails/Confederation.html
The dunes at Cavendish Beach are 4 km long and make a great place to take a walk at sunset. We did this a couple of weeks ago and only made it 1 km out the dunes.
A very ambitious trail. Would love to find the time to hike it.
The Tlaqatik Trail in the Greenwich section of PEI National Park does more than just access the Greenwich Dunes Trail. It travels through fields that provide views of St. Peters Bay, it passes by an old homestead, and there are many interpretive signs about the archaelogical significance of the site. It also travels along the back side of the large dunes. For more information and pictures for this trail go to http://www.hikingpei.ca/Tra/PEIPark/Greenwich/Tlaqatik.html
The North Rustico Harbour Trail is a beautiful place to take a walk along the harbour in this quaint little fishing community. For more information or pictures for this trail go to http://www.hikingpei.ca//GreenGablesShore/NorthRustico.html
The L.M. Montgomery's Cavendish National Monument Trail uses interpretive signs to take you through the world where L.M. Montgomery spent the first half of her life. For more info and pictures from this trail go to: http://www.hikingpei.ca//GreenGablesShore/LMMontgomery.html
