The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is asking all snowmobilers to join us in keeping OFSC trails available to ride every winter. Thanks to 18,000 generous landowners, about 60% of OFSC trails cross private property, providing access to communities and services, as well as connections neighbouring regions, and safer riding for everyone. So each snowmobiler who loves trail riding shares a common goal of protecting our trails on private property, respecting our lan...downer partners, and maintaining the inter-connected trail system that provides so many positive benefits for rural economies. All of us have a part to play in preserving snowmobile trails and standing up for our landowners. Together, our goal is to make wandering off the marked trail and trespassing on private property as socially unacceptable within the snowmobile community as drinking and driving, driving without a seatbelt, or smoking in the workplace are throughout our province.

To all snowmobilers, our club committee members have received several inquiries and comments about several safety issues. We will try to provide response as best we can throughout the season. The first issue I’d like to answer to is the community speed zones. It must be understood that many of the OFSC trails venture through populated areas and/or are part of a shared trail system. With that being said, signs are erected to administer posted speed limits as per provincial... regulations. That last sentence is very important. Clubs do not set speed limits. They are set by provincial regulations and may be further limited by municipal bylaws. In this specific case the portion of the Algonquin trail between Arnprior and Castleford is well posted and [in fact] has two of these four foot square signs (one at each end) clearly indicating this. CDSC is posting this picture as a reminder to all riders that this is a busy section of trail with pedestrians, sleds and multiple driveway and road crossings and that due diligence must be applied (by all) to ensure all safety measures are adhered to. Please pay attention to speed limits and stop signs and execute extreme caution when passing pedestrians. Thank you all and drive safely. Ted Poirier President CDSC 613-717-2643 See more

Ours groomers have volunteered a lot of time to set a trail base for this year. It is VERY FRUSTRATING to see all the clubs work damaged in minutes by unauthorized vehicles on the trails!

Your groomer volunteer operators have put in around 100 hours over the past week. Please arrange for more snow!

Club volunteers groomed the 105 yesterday to Mountain Chute. The hill on the south side is very rough, rocks, rocks, Billy goat country. Please note in the video how much snow is under the groomer tracks! We are trying to make trails with no base to work with. I desperately want to ride my sled also.

Good morning snowmobilers, The Renfrew County and District Health Unit would like to take this opportunity to make you are aware that Ontario issued a stay-at-home order. The order specifically states that individuals shall remain in their place of residence at all times unless leaving their place of residence is necessary for one or more of the following purposes: Work, school and child care... Obtaining goods and services Assisting others Health, safety and legal purposes Multiple residences and moving Travel Gatherings Animals Further to this, if someone should choose to go snowmobiling, the snowmobile trails are listed as a permitted recreational amenity in Regulation 82/20, so gathering limits while engaged on the trails do not apply, but 2 metre physical distancing from others outside your household applies. As it relates to social gatherings, only household members can congregate inside and around vehicles/trailers. There can only be a maximum of 5 people physically distancing (unless from the same household) by 2 metres in an outdoor gathering. If 2 metres cannot be maintained outside, masks must be worn. This also applies while staying in accommodations, such as a hotel or motel. Individuals should not leave their jurisdiction to use the trails. Once finished using the snowmobile trails, individuals are to return to their place of residence as per the stay-at-home order, since loitering and gathering for any other reason than those outlined in the stay-at-home order is not permitted.
