Outrageous. I grew up on a 7th generation dairy farm; I saw the toll it took on my father and my family life. The suits in Washington, Ottawa and Toronto have n...o idea of the unrelenting hard work and stress demanded by being a farmer. NONE of them would be willing to work so hard 365 days a year, in all weather conditions, with huge overheads required. The big bully to the south has sprung a huge "America First" demand late in NAFTA negotiations, demanding that Canada totally end its supply management system for our dairy, egg and poultry agricultural sectors -- while of course continuing to heavily subsidize its own agricultural producers. Trump the incompetent who specializes in chaos & destruction lives in a Manhattan penthouse covered in tacky gilt like a fake Versailles -- and he dares to dictate to another sovereign country that it must destroy its system that guarantees predictable incomes to farmers willing to work in mud and manure, in exchange for a steady supply of products that meet high standards of quality and safety? If you care about Canada being self-sufficient in food production, and about having safe food, don't be fooled by hoping to save a few cents at the grocery store. As the world becomes more unstable and climate change intensifies, trust me, you'll be glad to have local farmers feeding you, and not be dependent on foreign imports. See more
