Hillside Greenhouses

The bees are hard at work pollinating the tomato flowers. If we are pruning or tying up a plant that a bee is at, we just skip it and come back to it when the bee has left.

The tomatoes are flowering, little tomatoes coming soon :)

Beans, cucumbers and peppers looking good.

We are seeding our amazingly sweet and tender Romano beans today. They are so good, can’t wait for them to be ready.

The asparagus seedlings are really growing! It’s nice and warm under the lites. We are patiently waiting for this cold snap to end and then they will go to the greenhouse too. Hope everyone is safe and warm.

I found an old picture of me and my brother ( who I must of bribed into helping me somehow ) transplanting and labeling tomato plants. My love of growing started in high school in a little hobby greenhouse.

Growing fast! In a few weeks we will move all the plants into the greenhouse. Right now we have them under grow lights in a heated shop. There is less to worry about when they aren’t in the greenhouse, and it saves having a big heating bill. Either way it feels a little like spring for me.

The rest of the seeds germinated nicely. Now that they have all popped thru the soil, we will start giving them a bit of fertilizer the next time we water.

This little guy got a head start on everyone else somehow :). If you look closely in the picture you can see a seed just coming thru the soul beside it as well.

Don’t forget that we are open tomorrow, Saturday AND Sunday this week! More time to stock up on groceries and avoid the weekend rush

Our new honey labels came this week. I love them so much, I just had to share

The beginnings of crab apple jelly. We start by boiling the apples, then they are strained and the juice is used for the jelly.

We are making our roasted tomato and garlic pizza sauce today. Roasting the tomatoes and garlic bring out a rich, deep flavour that makes such a difference on your homemade pizza. We love it in our house.

We are making Crab Apple Jelly in our commercial kitchen today. It’s hard to beat the smell of apple boiling away. Tonight we will have fresh baking powder biscuits with butter and jelly, one of my favourites.

We had a busy morning today. We got our honey hives moved to a new location, finished weeding a flower bed that we’ve been working all week on, and got the lawn mowed too. Feels good being caught up
