Dear Parents of Junior Members, We hope that you and your families are keeping well and safe during this ongoing period of social isolation required to combat COVID-19. While we have seen signs that restrictions may begin easing soon, we were not able to open the Hillside Tennis Club for the season as usual on May 1st. While we are hard at work preparing the Club so that we will be ready to open as soon as we get the green light, we have made the decision to cancel the spring... Junior clinics. Anyone who has already registered for the spring clinics will not be charged. Registration for our summer camps remains open online. Although it is too early to say for certain whether the camps will take place, for now we are planning as though they will be. Should they end up being cancelled you will not be charged. As the weather warms, we are hopeful that we will be able to return to the Hillside, even if it means taking extra precautions to respect social distancing and disinfecting. A Health Committee is being formed thanks to the initiative of Hillside member, Dr. Vincent Lacroix to set up protocols for gradual Club access in accordance with government guidelines. We are committed to informing you as the situation develops. In the meantime, please join our private Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/hillsideprivategroup where those of you that are missing tennis can get a head start on returning to play with this short video of tennis drills from our very own Dariusz Kozak. We encourage you to challenge yourself and your friends to take photos or videos of yourselves doing Dariusz’s drills and post them in the Facebook group! A Message from Our President Tennis and other games have defined rules. The players are known, and the game cannot extend indefinitely. In the face of the current COVID-19 pandemic, everyone belonging to the Hillside Tennis Club is dealing with quite the opposite. There are many changing factors that have to be considered for the wellbeing of members, management, staff, and the Club. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time and we hope you, and your loved ones, re...main in good health. We are not able to provide a date for the opening of our 95th Season until government restrictions are lifted. Hillside is not considered an essential service and is off limits. We are working on scenarios for alternatives for opening and operating but any possibility will require preparations. The understanding, patience and support members have shown for the Club in the face of this unprecedented challenge is truly heartwarming. As ever, for the duration of the restrictions in place to battle COVID-19, we continue to be responsible for all aspects of the Club. We must take care of our property, tennis courts, our valued management and staff, as well as our members. While we don’t yet know when the restrictions will be lifted, and while we are aware that there is a possibility that the Club may not open at all this year, we must be ready for all possible scenarios. I am committed to turning challenges into opportunities for Hillside for the second season as your President. When appropriate, we ask all of you to invite people to join the Hillside, as never before. While we have an uncertain season ahead, we can be certain that Hillside is more relevant than ever for enjoying top notch tennis and swimming in a safe social environment that is truly magical. It is your hassle-free country place in the city. While the unprecedented situation we are facing keeps us away from the Hillside for the time being, I hope you will agree that our Club is infinite in its appeal and viability. Keep the ball in play. We are playing the long game, and the day will come when we will return to the Club we all know and love. In addition to having great people, the long game calls for a uniquely attractive Hillside facility with competitive and enduring value conditions that allow us to grow even stronger membership and even greater Club use. It calls on your loyalty, your sense of belonging and ambassadorship. It calls on all of us to take appropriate steps to shepherd Hillside to a bright future, together.
