Please help! This little girl needs a home! Her elderly owner is unable to care for her, and although it breaks his heart he’d like to find her a good home Sh...ih-tzu mix about 8 years of age. She needs a dental, but more importantly, she has an ulcerated growth on her tail necessitating a partial amputation. This super sweet girl and her owner are hoping someone will be willing to take her on in spite of her medical concerns. Please DM me if it is you.

As per the new Town of Hinton bylaw, please be advised masks will now be required when visiting the Clinic. The health and safety of our clients and staff is of utmost importance and to that end, we would like to reiterate our Covid protocols. In addition to masks, we ask that only 2 people be in the reception area at a time and only 1 family member attend the Clinic. Where possible, please call ahead for food and prescription requests. We understand the situation is not ideal, but by working together, we hope to be able to return to regular protocols as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. Stay safe!

How your vet sees euthanasia..... So, you bring me this puppy - she kisses my face, devours the cookies I offer, and our friendship starts. Several visits late...r, he starts to learn where all the cookie jars are in the clinic, and that lady in the white coat, well she’s okay.... Fast forward many visits later, now I am in love with your dog and your whole family because, well, you are just really really good people and I have not only watched that pup turn into a really sweet family member, but I got to watch the kids grow every year and be a very small part of your journey. Remember that time she ate your teenage daughter’s thong underwear? yeah we all had a good laugh over that once surgery was done and she was recovered. Your daughter probably never forgave me for bagging that up and showing the whole fam-jam when they came to pick her up from the clinic. So many adventures, so little time..... And here we are, fifteen or so odd years later, having to say goodbye. He’s got heart disease and I can’t fix it anymore. She’s got cancer and there is no cure. He has arthritis and the meds just aren’t working. I want her to live forever for you. I want that so badly it hurts. I feel like I have failed him and you when I have run out of options to keep them, and you, comfortable and happy. So now it’s time, and I am supposed to be professional. Objective. I am the doctor. Calm. Cool. Collected. Always under control. F~*k that. I have known you and her for a third of my life, and most of my professional career. But I keep it together. My superhuman amazing technicians have put the catheter in. My support staff from reception to assistants have done all the paperwork. Trust me they may not show it but their hearts are breaking for you. They have been there. They know. And they know you and care about you too. And I have the needle in the pocket of my white coat. The same pocket that was always full of treats for him. I take a deep yoga breath and come into the room. Gotta stay strong now....... She’s giving me that sweet look she always does, the one that is followed by puppy kisses and a glance at the cookie jar. But she is too weak now. She is ready. You are not. I am not. But this shit has to happen because we love her too much to let her suffer. She would keep going as long as we asked her too. But we can’t ask her to anymore. It’s not fair to her. I wish our human hearts could be so giving all the time. I wish I could be the person my dog thinks I am. I wish I wish i wish I could find a way for them to live forever. But I don’t have those magical powers. I am just a vet. So we kiss him back, not much left of his body that still works, but that old tail wags, just enough that I lose my shit on the inside but I try not to cry. Gotta stay strong. Her body relaxes, she is in your arms and your are sobbing. Another family has lost one of its most cherished members. I put my stethoscope to her heart to make sure it has stopped but she is held so tight to your chest that maybe that is your heart I hear pounding or maybe it’s mine and all the blood rushing through my ears as I try so so so hard not to turn into a blubbering mess. Confirmed, he has passed. You lay him gently on the table and we hug tightly as you go to leave. The door closes behind you and I don’t know if you hear this, but I sob hysterically into your pets ear. She is gone, he will be missed, and you have to face what I know will be one of the hardest parts of today. Entering that house and they are not there to greet you. Please know that I know how you feel. As you leave the clinic I just wish with every fibre of my being that you never had to face that. I wish they could live forever. And please know, I am so grateful that I was a small part of your journey. Love always, Your vet.

You may have seen this face shared around Facebook and we are asking everyone to share one more time in search of owners. The dog was found nearly 100km south w...est of Grande Prairie, AB with a collar and leash attached. It is hard to believe someone isn’t looking for this cute face! The dog does have multiple medical issues to be addressed so finding owners is needed! Please share **This dog has been confirmed not to be the missing Sharpei Cali See more

For those who may have missed it, we'd like to reiterate our changes due to the ongoing Covid 19 situation. Clinic hours are Monday to Thursday, 9am - 2 pm. We are not doing any surgery at this time. Please, only one family member at the Clinic and only 2 people may be in the Clinic at a time to allow for appropriate social distancing. Hand sanitizer is provided at the front desk, please use when you come in to the Clinic, and when you leave. As well, if you would lik...e a mask while you are in the Clinic, one will be provided for you. If you are uncomfortable with coming in, please feel free to call ahead for food/prescription requests and we will be happy to bring it out to your vehicle. Unfortunately, due to the small size of the Clinic, we are unable to accommodate owners in the exam rooms at this time. One of our capable assistants will "borrow" your pet and the doctor will discuss any concerns with you after his exam. Please ensure you mention any concerns you may have with the ladies at the time of admitting. We realize this situation is not ideal, for either our valued clients or for us, but we are working hard to keep everyone safe and healthy at this time. We would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support and understanding while we work through this time! Stay safe!

This is from a vet! Hey guys! I’m both a vet and a golden retriever owner and lover (they are my favorite patients because who doesn’t love a happy Goldie). I j...ust want to share a little information and straighten something out. The two radiographs below are from a patient (not mine) that was a 4 year old golden retriever, he went into cardiac arrest an hour after presentation and couldn’t be saved. He was on a grain free diet for his entire life. Cardiologist confirmed this as a dietary DCM case. When your vet makes recommendations for a food (Purina, hills, royal canine, iams, eukanuba) it’s because those brands have veterinary nutritionists on staff and are extensively researched to make sure they are safe. We get nothing for our recommendations minus measuring cups and pens (trust me, I would be in way less debt if we got kick backs), and the measuring cups we get to give to owners, anyway. No, the exact link that is causing dietary related DCM has not been found. There’s a lot of research in progress, but answers are likely a year to two years out. But we do know we aren’t getting cases on foods that are properly researched and tested. So I’m just here to say, trust your vet. Our recommendations are because we love your dog too, and we never want to tell you we can’t save them due to something that could have been prevented. My golden girl at the bottom to add a little bit of happiness to a kind of sad post.
