A member of NONSUCH recently demonstrated how the Naval Reserve is always ready to lead and ready to help. A/SLt Termeer, while not in uniform, works as a primary health care nurse and was working in Old Crow, an isolated, fly-in/fly-out community in the Arctic Circle. Although there were no cases of COVID in Old Crow, she provided medical care as one of the two nurses including acting as a local EMS crew, prenatal work, and primary care. While there she met up with the local... Rangers unit. While I was there, I learned there was a Ranger unit. When members of the unit heard that a Naval Reservist was in the area, many stopped in at the nursing station to meet me. Overall, I was impressed by the leadership style of the Sgt Esau Schafer, A/SLt Termeer said. It was a nice mix of military and Indigenous tradition! A memorable experience was doing a medevac for a head trauma, she added. Pendant son séjour, elle a rencontré l’unité locale des Rangers. Pendant que j’étais là-bas, j’ai appris qu’il y avait une unité de Rangers. Quand les membres de l’unité ont appris qu’un réserviste de la marine était dans le coin, beaucoup se sont arrêtés au poste de soins pour me rencontrer. Dans l’ensemble, j’ai été impressionné par le style de leadership du Sgt Esau Schafer," a déclaré Ens 2 Termeer. C’était un beau mélange de tradition militaire et indigène ! Une expérience mémorable a été de faire une évacuation médicale pour un traumatisme crânien, a-t-elle ajouté.
