Anyone can be the victim of gaslighting. It can occur in a parent-child relationship, between siblings, in a romantic relationship and in a marriage. Does this sound familiar? Gaslighting is a key tool used by many narcissists - those that only care about themselves with no empathy for the feelings of others. The term gaslighting is derived from the 1944 film Gaslight, where a husband tries to convince his wife that she’s insane by causing her to question herself and he...r reality. So to get their way, the goal of a Narcissist is to make you feel as much Guilt and Shame as possible. They will do and say anything to manipulate you into thinking you are crazy. Are you in a relationship with a Narcissit? The following are traits and behaviors that suggest that someone is trying to gaslight another person, as well as some examples of what it might look like in a relationship: 1. White lies - being told a white lie when you know something to be true. 2. Denying the lie even when you have proof. 3. Their actions do not match their words. 4. You begin to question if everything is your fault. 5. They manipulate your feelings over people or things - this is to gain total control over you and turning you against them. 6. You are beginning to believe that you are crazy. 7.
