Walked down to the @gravenhurstoperahouse (one of my favourite local theatres!) to show it lit in red for #LightUpLive tonight, bringing awareness to an "industry that is still in the dark". #COVID19 has definitely had an impact on the #weddingindustry for sure, with all of our #MuskokaWeddings postponing to next year (hopeful that next year social gathering numbers return to the numbers that once were). Though I'm sure everyone is grateful for a break in such a go-go-go world, I know that all of the event venues and professionals are hurting, pivoting, and wanting to go back to the crazy long days and seasons. Wondered if #LabourDay would feel any different this year without a summer full of weddings but it doesn't. Still feels like a big exhale, so calm, so peaceful. Traditionally it would be the last opportunity for me to do this because the following September weekends were full of weddings. Still took some time to re-charge today. It is a rough time to operate a wedding business (I'm sure any business), during this pandemic. The topic is controversial, polarizing. I didn't know how I'd feel but I think that now I'm into what would normally have been the busiest time of my entire season, with 3-4 weddings happening every weekend in September, that I'm on the 'better safe than sorry' side of the fence. Very hard to think about booking for 2021 not knowing what it will bring. I do hope you're all staying ...safe and healthy. I'm think sitting this year out I to see what direction I need to go in isn't a bad idea. I would feel terrible to be affiliated with headlines like this one. It isn't worth it. Note: intimate weddings have always been an option to our couples, it's not just a COVID thing. #MuskokaWedding couples want to have 100-150 of their favourite people here to share in the love they have for the Muskoka side of their lives. There is something very gratifying about being able to pick your own fresh flowers. What makes you happy? What made you happy pre-covid, what's making you happy now?

One year ago today you slept in and missed the bus for school. I picked you up, in a car you had never seen me in before and I could tell you were excited about it and confused but you didn't ask me about it because you expected it wasn't the time, and that I was going to scold you. This time, for whatever reason I didn't lecture you, I listened, and when we got to school we took our time getting to the door. I don't know why because normally I think I'd let you out and you'd... go in. Instead we got out of the car and stood right here and talked. You just wanted to be happy, and I wanted to figure out how to make you happy. I told you as I held your face in my hands (above my shoulders - you had grown so much in the last year), that "we love YOU, we don't love some of the shitty choices you're making". You knew. I told you that maybe it was time to choose your own adventure, maybe school wasn't the place RIGHT NOW (words that if you knew me I would have never said) and perhaps go, travel, explore. I went home that day and thought about how maybe when the house sold, you and I could do the 'backpacking thing' in Europe. Pass off all of my weddings to Laura and take you there to remind you that life is what you make it, and that the pressures you're feeling here don't have to follow you. Going into school you were much calmer than when I picked you up. The sun today and the breeze, and looking around I'm grateful to have had these be my last physical moments with you, but for someone who was SO present only a year ago you feel SO gone now. I don't think I will ever be the same. 3 days from now and you die. I know you didn't think you would, and I know you wouldn't have chosen to. To everyone (and I know we all take risks) who thinks 'it won't happen to me', it can, and it does. It did. His name was Liam, and he should have lived a much longer, happier, healthier life than he did.

Touche Dad... touche. Happy Easter from my family to yours. (The dishes are done now in case you're wondering. I am wondering why the toothfairy and the Easter bunny are on the essential list and NOT the 'dish fairy' but I digress).

My job is that when the caterer has burned the ribs and chicken at the Friday welcome party at the cottage (on an island in Muskoka), the guests and the couple have no clue while my team calls ahead to the local swiss chalet to ask them to set aside ALL of their ribs + rotisserie for my assistant to water taxi over to the mainland, zip into town to grab it and have it back and sauced and on the buffet table for dinner. . . . COVID-19 might be a fire even I can't put out with...out people noticing. Reaching out to all of my 2020 couples today to discuss the elephant in the room - especially our June weddings. Things are changing by the minute it seems and we can waste time speculating or jump the gun on taking action because we feel pressure from family and friends to do so but it can end up costing you more $ and definitely more time. Our couples have been quiet. Our venues and event partners have been quiet. All holding their breath to see if they HAVE to make changes. We're too close to our June weddings now for me to wait so it's time to make the best of a crappy situation. If you ARE my client, if you AREN'T my client and have questions - reach out. They came in for lunch one day and fell in love. Today they fell in love all over again. Couldn't have planned that better! Rain is one of the most talked about subjects when planning a wedding, especially in Muskoka because so many elements are outdoors. Thought the umbrella theme in my booth would be a great way to remind people that if you can afford it, you shouldn't just 'hope for the best' with your wedding plans, you should plan for it! The simplest illustration is in the 'rain plan' but by hiring me I can look at and understand your wedding plan and manage it for you so that you have a much higher chance of having things play out the way you envisioned than if we we weren't involved. When was the last time you were at the @thekeetobala and what was it for? Believe it or not I've never attended a show there. When I left Muskoka for university back in the day I wasn't of age yet however on returning, I was, but instead of attending shows, I'm planning and coordinating weddings there. I get goosebumps when I walk through this venue. I know it sounds weird but I can feel the history in it and it feels magical thinking of all of the great people who have enjoyed their time there. One of the fun things for couples hosting their weddings is the surprised reactions they get when they announce their plan, and again once on-site watching guests react to the transformation from 'foam party' lol to wedding. I don't know how she does it but no matter what I'm doing or where life has taken me, Tricia shows up, gets me in the car and whisks me away from life for a few minutes or a few hours. I have the most incredibly thoughtful couples. Feeling the tears come back as I opened this from #aislebelovingflynn today, seeing the image on the front with my little brother's name, reading their note, and seeing that this tree will grow out in BC, somewhere he would have loved to travel to. 2015 received my first email from this pair wanting someone to work with them on their 2016 wedding plans. Yesterday we (the Webb family) participated in the #CIBCRunForTheCure at the @universityoftoronto #Mississauga campus (where I went to school!) In memory of Kathy whom we lost in July after her battle with cancer. She would have been very proud of her kids for organizing the fundraising efforts, over $3000 was raised - thank you! And last but not least, just in, a couple of photos from Lesleanne and Joel's 'foxy' celebration (his last name is fox :)) from Laura + Dawn. Their wedding ceremony, cocktails, dinner and dancing was held at the private cottage on Acton Island Road on Saturday under a clear tent, lakeside. Always seems like Sunday is the best day of the weekend. Current weather? A tad windy.
