(Updated below with instructions to make this soup in an Instant Pot) Who likes a hearty bowl of soup? For the last several years every Spring Holman Farming Group has kicked off the growing season with a meal for our employees and their families featuring ingredients that we will grow in the field that year. Our Staff Party isn’t possible this year due to Covid-19 so we decided to try something a little different and want share our love of Pulses and local ingredients with o...ur friends and neighbours in Luseland! Together with the help of Luseland Family Foods we have prepared a meal kit for you to make Green Pea and Red Lentil Soup. It contains Whole Green Peas and Red Lentils grown by Holman Farming Group as well as Homemade Stock and Bacon made by Luseland Family Foods, and all of the vegetables and spices you will need prepared and ready to cook! (Just remember to soak the peas!!) These meal kits are free to you (a gift from us), and will be available for a limited time at Luseland Family Foods starting today. We will work hard to package and restock as needed to make sure that everyone who wants one is able get a soup kit. Edited to Add: I’ve had a question on whether this can be made in an Instant Pot. It totally can! Still soak your peas for best results. Instructions for Instant Pot: Sauté bacon and vegetables as directed in the recipe but using the Sauté function on your Instant Pot. Add remaining ingredients and cook on High Pressure for 20 minutes, followed by a natural release.

It’s been really cold outside this week, and we are so grateful to have a great team of farmers, a warm shop to work in, as well as great companies like Thompson Bearing & Farm Parts and AGI to work with.

Harvest 2018 is a wrap for HFG! We had a fun day with families riding along! Laurie Bergen made the last pass, the hats went through the combine and Dean Sieben has done his traditional end of harvest monologue! Thanks to our hard working team for another great growing season!
