For all you knitters/ crocheters wondering what you can do to help during this pandemic : These tiny knitted/ crocheted piece is extremely helpful and greatly needed by our health care professionals. Health care workers can loop their face masks to these instead of their ears,making their 8-12 hours of mask wearing during their shift much more comfortable/ bearable. Health care workers are getting skin breakdown/sores on their ears from wearing the mask elastics for such... extended times . Let’s pull together and make difference from the comfort of our own homes ! Pattern: It is 5" long and about 1" wide with buttons on each end. Using cotton yarn - the same yarn as the dish cloths and 4-5mm needles, cast on 22 stitches. Knit 6-8 rows. Cast off. Use the ends to sew on buttons and to weave in . Trim. Tension is not important. Colour os not important. These can be crocheted as well . The buttons should be at least 1/2", or a cluster of smaller buttons would also work. There needs to be a secure surface for the mask elastic to loop through. Contact a health care provider you know and love and ask them to pick up the batch you make by leaving them in your mailbox so they can take them work to share with their colleagues.
