Introduction - Prayers Of The Faithful - January 31 For Pope Francis and Bishop Christian who constantly remind us of the presence of Jesus in our world and our Church and in all of the events that affect our lives. We pray to the Lord.... For our Diocese and each parish family as we learn new ways to evangelize and to rediscover the graces received through the Eucharist and Adoration. We pray to the Lord. For governments and policy makers that they will heed the warning of the United Nations of the dangers of the growing use of assisted suicide for people who are not terminally ill. We pray to the Lord. For each person affected by the ongoing pandemic and for each person offering healing, comfort, assistance and hope to others during these days. We pray to the Lord. For our children and grandchildren as they bravely continue to attend school and teach us the proper response to pandemics! We pray to the Lord. For each person suffering from ailments of the throat and for all those who desire the special blessing on the Feast of St. Blaise. We pray to the Lord. For those who have died: Lois McHugh, Rosalie Ingersoll, Stella McIntyre, Celina Cook, Nola Gillen, Bill Brenan, Jake Logan, Bill Munro, Joe Parisien, and for those who love them. We pray to the Lord.

Introduction - Prayers Of The Faithful - January 31 Tuesday, February 2nd, is the Feast of the Presentation marking Jesus’ first entry into the temple, forty days after His birth. It has also been marked as the Purification, the return of Mary to the Temple following the birth of her child. Over time the blessing of candles became associated with these feasts and processions would be held with lighted candles in anticipation of the return of days of more sunlight. The Blessin...g of the Candles for use in homes was a reminder that there were still long days of darkness and winter to be endured. To make the feast a little more fun German Christians began to associate the activities of hedgehogs with a prediction of the end of winter. When German settlers came to North America, woodchucks (groundhogs) were more plentiful. Our Groundhog Day has its roots in Christian tradition and anticipation and hope. But the day is even more significant as we recall the groundhog gale that nearly blew the socks of the city 45 years ago! However you see Feb. 2nd it gives us reason to be grateful for our faith and a reassurance that all things will pass, even winter and the pandemic! See more

Introduction - Prayers Of The Faithful Hodie Christus Natus Est Today Christ is born... These words were first spoken to shepherds by angels. They have been sung throughout the centuries to announce news of great joy to people of every age. Christ is born! Today the world is enveloped in a pandemic and its restrictions. Today many people are separated from family and friends. Today many people still mourn the death of loved ones. Today many fear loss of jobs, businesses and their homes. Today many are anxious about their education. Today many hungry and homeless fear even greater poverty. Today many are excited about the progress against COVID-19. Today some are celebrating recovery from illness. Today some are celebrating a recent marriage or engagement. Today some are celebrating the birth of a new child or the news that a new child is on the way. The news is the same. CHRIST IS BORN TODAY! It is meant for each of you. May this news give hope and healing, begin to ease sadness and mourning and continue to move so many people to express their care and love and trust in God in giving service to others.

Introduction Prayers Of The Faithful There is an old joke that has an angel showing a new arrival around the corridors of heaven. As they pass each door the angel identifies which group lives there. When they come to one particular room there is a sign that says SILENCE PLEASE. Once they have tiptoed past this door the new arrival asks the angel Who lives behind THAT door? The angel replied thats where the Catholics live and they think they are the only ones up here!. ...The humour is intended to illustrate the lavishness of Gods forgiveness and mercy. Who will be in Heaven? Whoever God lets in! And the parable today of the workers coming to the job late and getting the same wage as those who worked longer reminds us that God alone judges and God alone knows what is in the heart of each person and which of those hearts has been pierced as was the heart of His Immaculate Mother. So dont act too surprised when you see some of your friends when you get to heaventhey might be recovering from the shock of seeing you!

You have probably noticed that there are no Votive Candles currently available in the church. Current health restrictions prevent people from gathering in front of the votive stands, and from sharing the wooden tapers used to light the candles. If you would like to have a candle lit in the church, please contact the parish office (653-6830 or [email protected]) and a member of our staff would be happy to light a candle on your behalf. The suggested donation for each candle is $4, and money can be placed in the collection basket.

Bishop Riesbeck has asked that we pass along the following message from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB): This year, the Catholic Church in Canada, along with the rest of society, has been seriously affected by the Coronavirus pandemic: from an inability to gather in worship, through limitations on pastoral and personal interaction, to office closures. Bishops, as shepherds who watch over their flock, felt this disruption very keenly. As we continue to addre...ss the challenges and impact of the Coronavirus upon our families, communities of faith and ecclesial outreach, your prayers, gestures of kindness and generosity are invaluable, heartfelt and true sources of consolation, comfort and renewed encouragement in the pursuit of the Churchs pastoral mission. The Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada will take place on September 26 & 27. This annual charitable initiative assists the Bishops in their ministry of accompanying, teaching, guiding, sanctifying and caring for the Church in Canada.

Introduction Prayers Of The Faithful The Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, better known as the Redemptorists, were based at St. Peters and were well known throughout Atlantic Canada. It was the rare parish that did not experience one (or more) parish missions animated by these gifted Priests. One very well known member of the Mission Band was the late Fr. Art Connell. He was extremely kind and approachable. He was nicknamed by his confreres as the Chaplain to all Pa...rish Suppers in New Brunswick at Harvest Time! When he preached a parish mission he always included a sermon for married couples entitled Ten Rules for Fighting. Now, to be sure, Fr. Art would never encourage discord. But he was wise enough to know that, even in the most intimate and loving and important relationships, differences arise. And even if we are not always able to discuss these differences with charity and without accusations, we are always able to forgive. And it is forgiveness that strengthens relationships that are sometimes threatened by tensions and misunderstandings. The importance of forgiving is magnified throughout todays Liturgy. And, as Jesus taught us to pray, Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us!

Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to wait until November to restart Religious Education classes. We hope that this will reduce the stress on parents already dealing with the reopening of schools. The delayed start should also give us additional time to prepare for the necessary changes required to keep everyone safe. As soon as plans are finalized, we will share them with parents. Registration for classes will be completed online this year, and we expect to have the form available on our website within the next week. We require a baptism certificate for every child registered in our program. We encourage parents to contact the church that your children were baptized in to request a copy of that certificate.
